Through her perseverance and hard work, Ms. Trinh Thi Thuong, a Dao ethnic woman from Son Nga area, Nga Hoang commune (Yen Lap district), has risen out of poverty and become a role model for successful economic development in the locality.
Thanks to their hard work and perseverance, Trinh Thi Thuong's family now enjoys a comfortable life.
Born and raised in a farming family, Thuong's parents toiled year-round in the fields to earn a living and raise their children. Knowing her family's difficult circumstances, after completing high school, Thuong stayed home to help her parents with farming. Then, after starting her own family, life became even more difficult with the arrival of two children. With the mindset that poverty couldn't be a constant burden, Thuong decided to change her life.
Initially, she boldly borrowed money from the bank and from relatives and friends to open a grocery store combined with raising a few dozen broiler chickens, egg-laying ducks, and a couple of piglets. Seeing that livestock farming suited her capabilities, Thuong nurtured the idea of developing a large-scale model and actively participated in training courses on livestock farming, crop cultivation, and disease prevention organized by the district and commune; she proactively sought out successful economic models to learn from. Having accumulated knowledge and some capital, she focused on investing in a model of raising egg-laying ducks and commercial ducks, building an egg incubator, and cultivating cinnamon.
Because they raise ducks according to proper procedures and choose reliable feed sources, the eggs and commercial ducks from Thuong's family are selected and purchased by traders.
After years of hard work and learning from experience, the family's economic development model has expanded to include 3 hectares of cinnamon trees aged 7-10 years, a consistently large flock of 3,000 ducks, and 3 plots of ponds for raising various types of fish. In addition, she actively participates in promoting and selling local produce on social media channels. From livestock farming and other income sources, the family earns over 200 million VND annually. Thanks to this, their lives are stable, they have been able to purchase many amenities for daily life, and have accumulated savings.
Besides focusing on developing her family's economy, Ms. Thuong enthusiastically participates in the activities launched by the Women's Union, actively sharing her experiences in poverty alleviation and economic development with the local people. She readily assists the community in finding quality sources of livestock feed and ensuring market access for their products; she also diligently provides guidance on livestock care and disease prevention when needed. Through these simple, everyday actions, this petite Dao woman is contributing to the collective effort and unity of the ethnic communities in the region, helping them confidently rise up, create a prosperous life, and contribute to building a new rural area in this mountainous region still facing many difficulties.
Last June, at the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of Yen Lap District - 2024, Trinh Thi Thuong was honored as one of 26 outstanding individuals to receive awards for her excellent achievements in the ethnic minority areas of the district during the period 2019-2024.
