She is He Jing, in her 30s, working at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences and Humanities, Beihang University - one of China's leading universities in aeronautics and aerospace, founded in 1952.

In the video posted on her personal account with nearly 120,000 followers, Ms. He Jing presented an easy-to-understand explanation of the basic concept of generative artificial intelligence (AI). The video quickly went viral, attracting more than 125,000 likes. However, besides compliments about the content, many netizens paid attention to the female lecturer's youthful appearance.

“She is already an associate professor at this age?”, one person commented.

“Looks like a freshman, but turns out to be a university lecturer!” another person wrote.

In the face of skepticism, on October 1, a representative of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences and Humanities confirmed that He Jing was an official lecturer at the unit, and said that her academic records were made public on the school's website.

According to her introduction, she is currently the Deputy Director of the Center for Science and Technology Management of the Institute, and has published more than 40 scientific articles in prestigious journals, of which more than 10 are the main author or co-author. She was a postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua University, focusing on topics of AI and big data, new media, public opinion and interdisciplinary research. According to Google Scholar statistics, her works have been cited more than 2,300 times.

Faced with the sudden wave of interest, the female lecturer responded modestly: “I think I am very normal and not photogenic. Most of my videos have been edited with AI. My academic record is also nothing special.”

According to SCMP , on Chinese social media, many people expressed their admiration and defended her: “She may be famous for her looks, but her academic ability is also very impressive”; “Honestly, the beautiful teacher’s lecture helped me understand AI better. I must save it to watch again”; “Some people are ridiculous - whenever women achieve success, they say it is due to luck or appearance”...

According to the QS World University Rankings 2026, Beihang University is currently ranked 388th in the world and 81st in East Asia.

The story of Associate Professor He Jing - a female lecturer who is both knowledgeable and beautiful - is a "hot" topic on the Chinese internet, reflecting how society views successful women in academia, in the era of AI and social networks.
