China's college entrance examination (Gaokao) is considered one of the most competitive in the world . Even achieving a score just high enough to pass the university entrance exam is difficult; few candidates can even dream of achieving a perfect score.

However, Ha Bich Ngoc (born in 1985) managed to do just that. She caused a media sensation by achieving a perfect score of 750. This is remarkable because no one before Bich Ngoc had ever done this.

750/750 - A score never before seen in history.

Born into a family with a tradition of academic excellence in Henan , China, Bich Ngoc had access to many books and knowledge from a young age.

While her peers were still learning to speak, Bich Ngoc had already memorized several poems. Her parents always believed in letting their children learn and develop naturally, without confining them within four walls. Therefore, from the age of three, Bich Ngoc was taken by her parents to visit many places and acquire knowledge through real-life experiences. This helped her develop her intelligence and imagination.

Besides acquiring knowledge, Bich Ngoc was also given special attention in developing various skills such as dancing and singing. Thanks to this nurturing in many areas, she became an outstanding child, far surpassing her classmates.

At the age of 10, Bich Ngoc passed the entrance exam to Tan Huong No. 1 High School in Ha Nam province, a school exclusively for exceptionally gifted students. Despite her young age, she scored high enough to be in the gifted class.

In 1999, Ha Bich Ngoc registered for the university entrance exam for the first time. She eagerly applied to the undergraduate program at the University of Science and Technology of China, but was unsuccessful.

Undeterred, a year later, she decided to retake the exam. This time, Bich Ngoc astonished the entire country by achieving a perfect score of 750, the highest ever recorded in China. This score earned Bich Ngoc admission to the prestigious Tsinghua University.

Controversial decision

After graduating from Tsinghua University, Bich Ngoc was offered the opportunity to continue her studies and research with extremely attractive policies. However, the girl from Ha Nam province still wished to study abroad to explore new fields.

At the age of 18, Bich Ngoc went to the University of Washington (USA) to pursue graduate studies. The Chinese girl gradually earned prestigious degrees. After receiving her PhD, Bich Ngoc did not return to China. This caused a public outcry in China.

When Bich Ngoc announced she would continue her scientific research in the US, many people unearthed an interview from her university days. She had previously stated that she wanted to study a new field abroad so that she could better serve and contribute to her country in the future.

Because of that promise, the Chinese people thought that after completing her postgraduate studies, she would return to work in her hometown. Unexpectedly, after many years of studying abroad, Bich Ngoc changed her mind, disappointing many people.

In 2016, Bich Ngoc became an assistant professor at the New York University School of Medicine. The story of this child prodigy became a topic of debate on social media.

Alongside the criticism, many people have spoken out in her defense. They argue that pursuing one's passion is not wrong, and that Bich Ngoc's decision to stay in the US for educational reasons is legitimate, as the desire to enhance knowledge is not a sinful act that should be condemned. Some commented that Bich Ngoc's contribution to the overall development of the world could also be considered a contribution to China.
