Ambassadors of Reading Culture
Nguyen Pham Hai Lam, a student from class 4/2 at Nguyen Huu Canh Primary School in Vung Tau City, shared her passion for reading with us when asked about it. Hai Lam was one of the winners of the Outstanding Award in Category A of the "My Favorite Book" competition, which concluded and awarded prizes at the end of May.
Hai Lam always prioritizes books that align with her interests and learning goals. Whenever she reads, she always takes notes on key points, insightful quotes, or valuable lessons. To avoid pressure and manage her time flexibly, she usually breaks down her reading time into smaller segments, about 30-45 minutes each day. Furthermore, she frequently participates in book-related writing competitions organized by her school and province to test her abilities and convey the content of her favorite books.
In particular, in the "Reading Culture Ambassador" competition in 2024 launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hai Lam introduced the memoir of former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh along with a plan to develop reading culture in the province, and she won the National Encouragement Prize.
"We believe that book-related competitions aimed at promoting a reading culture will continue to be a source of inspiration for nurturing a love of books that spreads throughout the community." Mr. Huynh Toi, Deputy Director of the Provincial Museum and Library |
Hai Lam shared: “During the summer break, I still seek out and read more good books for entertainment and to expand my knowledge. I am currently finalizing my entry for the “Reading Culture Ambassador” competition in 2025 to meet the deadline of June 15th.”
Sharing the Outstanding Award in this year's "My Favorite Book" competition with her reflections on the work "Crossing Con Dao," Tran Bao Chau (8C class, Le Hong Phong Secondary School, Con Dao district) shared that her parents instilled in her a love of books from a young age. Her parents also frequently rewarded her with books when she achieved high academic results. Through reading, her writing style became smoother and more expressive, and her academic performance in Literature also improved significantly.
Furthermore, exposure to various genres of books helps me broaden my knowledge, develop my thinking skills, and enrich my vocabulary to improve my communication abilities. In addition, reading provides me with moments of relaxation after stressful study hours.

Read books with your heart.
Participating in the "My Favorite Book" contest in category B, which included teachers and independent contestants, teacher Truong To My (Thang Nhi Primary School, Vung Tau City) expressed her fondness for the book "I Studied at University" by the distinguished educator Nguyen Ngoc Ky. Teacher To My won the outstanding prize in this category.
Ms. To My shared that, while rereading each page of the book to complete her essay, she became even more deeply impressed by the extraordinary willpower of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ky—a man who wrote his own life story with his feet and an unyielding heart. The message the young teacher wanted to convey through her essay was: “There are no limits for those who know how to nurture their dreams, maintain their faith, and persevere on their learning journey. A single page, if read with all your heart, can change a whole life…”
Mr. Huynh Toi, Deputy Director of the Provincial Museum and Library, said that the Provincial Museum and Library was assigned as the coordinating unit to organize the competition. Over the past six years, alongside the annual Reading Culture Ambassador competition, these competitions have been evaluated as an ideal platform to maximize creativity and artistic appreciation.
Through these competitions and by experiencing each book, contestants have the opportunity to learn more about the glorious history, traditional culture, and noble qualities of the Vietnamese people, becoming motivated to study, train, and contribute to the overall development of the country.
