In Bac Lieu, what kind of animal do people raise in their rice fields that makes every family that raises it rich?

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Chau Tai Tao (Can Tho University), the rice-shrimp model is one of the models highly appreciated for its suitability to Bac Lieu's land.

The WWF project investing in the rice-shrimp model in Phuoc Long district and Gia Rai town (Bac Lieu province) applying scientific and technical advances in production has truly changed farmers' rice-shrimp production practices compared to before.

Productivity and quality of shrimp and rice have increased significantly. Localities and cooperatives need to encourage the replication of this model in the coming time.

Previously, the area north of National Highway 1A was part of a "yawning field", farmers mainly produced rice once a year, and many places were left fallow, unable to produce.

Mr. Do Minh Thang - Chairman of Gia Rai Town People's Committee (Bac Lieu province) said: "Since converting production, the locality has encouraged the implementation of the rice - shrimp model, at first farmers were hesitant.

However, after seeing the model bring positive results, many farmers started to implement it. Since then, the rice-shrimp area has been expanding. To further improve the efficiency of the rice-shrimp model, Bac Lieu province has invested in building a complete irrigation system and closed dykes to proactively regulate production water.

Thanks to that, production efficiency on the same area has also increased significantly, and farmers' lives are getting better and better."
