Thus, the young billionaire has officially joined the "200 billion USD billionaire club" along with three other members: Elon Musk, founder and CEO of Tesla and the X platform; Jeff Bezos, founder of e-commerce company Amazon; and Bernard Arnault, CEO of leading luxury fashion brand LVMH.
According to Bloomberg statistics, billionaire Musk, currently possessing a net worth of $272 billion, is the richest person in the world . Following him is billionaire Bezos with $211 billion, ranking second. In third place is billionaire Arnault with $207 billion.
Thanks to his increased wealth this year, billionaire Zuckerberg is currently the fourth richest person in the world, but he is very likely to soon surpass the person in front of him to reach third place in the near future.
Zuckerberg, 40, first launched the Facebook social networking platform in 2004 and quickly became one of the world's most famous self-made billionaires. The majority of his wealth is tied to shares of Meta (the predecessor of Facebook).
Since the beginning of the year, Meta's stock (ticker symbol META) has increased in value by nearly 64%, amid a general surge in technology stocks in the US and globally.
On September 25th, following the Meta Connect 2024 event, Meta stock rose 0.9% and closed the trading session at a record high of $568.31 per share. However, by September 29th, the stock had fallen to $567.36 per share.
Speaking at the Meta Connect 2024 event, billionaire Zuckerberg stated that Meta AI is on track to become the most widely used "virtual assistant" in the world. He revealed that the application has nearly 500 million monthly active users and has not even launched in some major markets, including the European Union (EU).
Billionaire Zuckerberg isn't the only "tech mogul" to see a massive increase in wealth this year.
Billionaire Jensen Huang, CEO of semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia, and Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, have seen their net worth skyrocket to $62.2 billion and $58.6 billion, respectively, since the beginning of the year.
