Mr. Le Minh Tri has been appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The 15th National Assembly unanimously elected Mr. Le Minh Tri to the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, replacing Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh. Prior to this, Mr. Tri had served as the Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy for over 8 years.
At the 8th extraordinary session of the National Assembly on the afternoon of August 26th, 438 out of 438 National Assembly delegates (91.06% of the total number of National Assembly delegates) present voted to approve the Resolution electing Mr. Le Minh Tri as Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court. Immediately after being elected, the new Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, Le Minh Tri, took the oath of office before the National Assembly, as stipulated by the Constitution. "Under the sacred red flag with a yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly and the people and voters nationwide, I – the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court – swear: To be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the People, to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to strive to fulfill all the tasks entrusted to me by the Party, the State, and the People," Mr. Le Minh Tri swore. Mr. Le Minh Tri was born in 1960 in Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Security and a Bachelor's degree in Law. Mr. Tri is a member of the Central Committee of the Party in the 12th and 13th terms. Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat of the 13th term (from August 2024) and Member of the National Assembly of the 14th and 15th terms.

Mr. Le Minh Tri began his career in the police force. After graduating from the People's Security University (now the People's Security Academy), Mr. Tri served as Deputy Team Leader and Deputy Head of the Security Planning Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, then as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior (now the Ministry of Public Security ). In mid-1992, he was seconded as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Security force and served as Secretary to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. Subsequently, he held various positions at the local level, including: Deputy Chief of the Office of the People's Council and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of District 11; Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of District 1, before becoming Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City in early 2010. After three years as Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Tri was transferred by the Central Secretariat to the position of Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission in April 2013, a position he held for three years, before being elected Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy in April 2016 at the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly. The People's Courts are judicial bodies that exercise judicial power. According to the Law on the Organization of the People's Courts, the Supreme People's Court is the highest judicial body in Vietnam. The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court is elected, dismissed, or removed from office by the National Assembly upon the proposal of the President. The term of office of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court coincides with the term of the National Assembly. The Law on the Organization of the People's Courts stipulates that the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court is responsible for organizing the judicial work of the Supreme People's Court; is responsible for organizing the implementation of the principle of independent judgments and lay judges who are only bound by law. The Chief Justice also presides over the sessions of the Council of Judges of the Supreme People's Court; has the right to appeal, through supervisory review and retrial procedures, judgments and decisions of courts that have become legally effective as prescribed by law; and submits proposals to the President regarding cases where convicted persons request clemency from the death penalty. The Chief Justice also has the right to submit to the National Assembly for approval proposals for the appointment, dismissal, and removal of Supreme People's Court judges. The President of the Republic appoints, dismisses, and removes from office the Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, and appoints, dismisses, and removes from office Judges of the People's Courts....
