(CLO) Former US President Donald Trump once again affirmed his admiration for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a podcast program that garnered record viewership.

In an interview on comedian and UFC commentator Joe Rogan's podcast, the Republican presidential candidate stated that he understands Kim Jong Un "very well."

Towards the end of his presidency, Trump said he had worked to get North Korea to stop developing nuclear weapons, stating on a podcast that "we have no problem with North Korea."

In 2019, Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un even met at a summit in Vietnam. The meeting was held with the aim of ending the Korean War and persuading North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons.

Speaking to host Rogan, Trump said he had spoken intimately with Kim Jong Un to persuade the North Korean leader to give up nuclear weapons, saying, “Didn’t you ever do anything else? Why don’t you just relax? Go to the beach, relax.”

Former President Trump also claimed that Russia would never attack Ukraine if he remained in the White House. Recalling a conversation with Putin, Trump said: “I once said, ‘Vladimir [Putin], you’re not going to come in.’ I still talk to him often.”

The Republican presidential candidate refused to reveal what President Putin had told him, saying it was "inappropriate." He went on to say that Putin would surely speak publicly about it someday.

Meanwhile, Trump also called Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un "smart" and "savvy." Trump made these remarks in response to reports from South Korean and Ukrainian intelligence that hundreds of North Korean soldiers were in Russia to participate in the war with Ukraine. Both Russia and North Korea denied these allegations.

The podcast interview set a record for viewership.

Former US President Donald Trump's recent interview with podcast host Joe Rogan – a comedian and UFC commentator – has gone viral online, having been viewed over 26 million times on YouTube in the first 24 hours.

Trump spoke with Joe Rogan for three hours on "The Joe Rogan Experience," discussing in detail almost everything about Trump's life—his first experience in the White House, his transition from business to politics , the 2020 election, and the July assassination.

"The Joe Rogan Experience" is one of the most-watched podcasts in the world . It has 14.5 million subscribers on Spotify and 17.5 million subscribers on YouTube.

Although Spotify and Apple Podcasts don't release viewership data for each episode, YouTube views suggest this was one of the biggest episodes in the show's history and reached more viewers than any other podcast to date in the US presidential campaign.
