Pham Ly Duc: The Vietnam U23 striker was unlucky.

Pham Ly Duc spoke out in defense of his attacking teammates after the Vietnam U23 team continued to miss many scoring opportunities and only won 2-1 against the Philippines U23 team.

On the afternoon of July 25th, Vietnam U23 defeated the Philippines U23 team 2-1 in the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. This was the second consecutive match in which coach Kim Sang Sik's team missed many good scoring opportunities and only won by a single goal.

Responding to the view that the Vietnamese U23 forwards did not perform well, center-back Pham Ly Duc spoke out in defense of his teammates.

"It might just be bad luck. Coach Kim Sang Sik will give the team more training," Lee Duc said briefly.

This is the third consecutive match in which center-back Pham Ly Duc has been included in the starting lineup. He and Nguyen Hieu Minh are the two defenders who scored for the Vietnam U23 team.

Against U23 Philippines, U23 Vietnam scored two goals thanks to Nguyen Dinh Bac and Nguyen Xuan Bac to complete a comeback victory with a 2-1 score.

This result doesn't accurately reflect the match's dynamics, as the Vietnam U23 team missed many good scoring opportunities, with Dinh Bac himself hitting the crossbar and post at least three times.

"This was a dedicated match from both teams. The U23 Philippines team is strong and played very hard. Even though we were behind, we remained united and fought until the very last minute," Ly Duc shared.

When asked about his experience playing in an empty stadium, Ly Duc did not feel disappointed.

"Whether there are spectators or not, we are still the ones who decide the match," said the 2003-born central defender.

Following their victory against the Philippines U23 team, the Vietnam U23 team received a motivational bonus of 500 million VND from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). After this match, Coach Kim's team will await their opponent, either Thailand U23 or Indonesia U23, in the final of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, which will take place on July 29th.
