Efforts are being made to commence the Cao Bo Expressway expansion project.

The project to expand the North-South expressway section from Cao Bo to Mai Son is expected to commence in December.

Regarding the progress of the North-South Expressway expansion project, specifically the Cao Bo - Mai Son section, a representative from the Ninh Binh Department of Transport told the Traffic Newspaper that the design documents, cost estimates, and bidding plan for the project have been submitted to the Ministry of Transport for review and approval.

"The tender documents are expected to be issued this November. The contractor selection process and project commencement will take place in December 2024," a representative from the Ninh Binh Department of Transport informed.

According to the investment plan approved by the Ministry of Transport, the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway expansion project has a total length of over 15km. The starting point connects with the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway in Yen Bang commune, Yen Yen district, Nam Dinh province.

The project's endpoint connects with the Mai Son - National Highway 45 section of the North-South Expressway, located in Mai Son commune, Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh province.

The project is being developed as a Class 100-120 expressway, with a design speed of 100-120 km/h, expanding the existing road by 2 lanes on the left side, with a roadbed width of 15.25m (ensuring a completed scale of 6 lanes and a roadbed width of 32.25m). The route remains unchanged from the phased construction plan.

The expressway has a total of 7 bridges. Of these, 3 bridges (Nam Binh Bridge, Dong Thinh Bridge, and Mai Son Bridge) have been upgraded to accommodate 6 lanes and have had their surfaces roughened.

For the four bridges: Cao Bo Bridge, Cam Bridge, the National Highway 10 overpass, and Quan Vinh Bridge, additional bridge sections will be constructed on the left side of the route to ensure a 6-lane capacity.

In addition, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are also being invested in according to current technical standards, regulations, and guidelines.

With the above plan, the total investment for the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway expansion project is nearly 1,900 billion VND from the central government budget.
