With FIFA announcing the bonus structure for teams participating in the 2026 World Cup, small teams participating for the first time such as Haiti, Curacao or Cape Verde are facing the opportunity to completely change their football future.
According to FIFA's website, in the group stage alone, each team will receive $2 million for each win and $1 million for each draw. This is a significant amount for many small football federations, where annual budgets are sometimes equivalent or even lower.
If they advance to the round of 16, each team will receive an additional $7.5 million ; the quarter-finals will receive an additional $13.125 million ; the semi-finals will receive an additional $21 million ; the runner-up will receive $30 million , and the champion will pocket $40 million in prize money, just for their performance.

In addition, FIFA also has a “participation fund” worth 525 million USD , distributed by continent. Teams from North and Central America, Asia or Africa will receive 9.55 million USD each. For poor countries like Haiti or Curacao, this amount of money is enough to rebuild the youth training system, upgrade facilities and improve the entire football operating structure.
In the context of many new teams breathing the World Cup atmosphere for the first time, participation not only has historical value but also opens up the opportunity to turn a new page.
For Haiti, a country mired in social crisis and with its football infrastructure ravaged by violence, the cash from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup could be the start of a national football revival.
