'Musician with billions of views' Nguyen Van Chung unexpectedly passed university entrance exam at age 42

At the age of 42, musician Nguyen Van Chung suddenly announced that he had passed the university entrance exam.

Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music confirmed that musician Nguyen Van Chung is one of 22 new students admitted to the Faculty of Music Pedagogy, full-time university program in 2025.

He took the Music Knowledge (5.17 points), Vocal Music (8 points) and Musical Instruments (8 points), with a total of 21.17/30 points.

Sharing with VietNamNet, musician Nguyen Van Chung said he spent 1 month studying for the exam with 2 lecturers.

"I studied with the teachers continuously, despite my busy work schedule and exchanges with other schools. Sometimes, I felt exhausted, but fortunately, my efforts paid off," he recalled.

According to Nguyen Van Chung, the most difficult subject is Music Knowledge because the exam tests comprehensively from basic knowledge of musical characteristics, music history with 10 world- famous musicians to knowledge of solfege and music appreciation.

For Vocal Music, he chose to sing two songs: Trong Com and Viet Tiep Chuyen Hoa Binh . For Instrumental Music, he chose to play two songs on the piano: Diary of Mother and A Time for Us .

Regarding the reason for becoming a freshman at the age of 42, Nguyen Van Chung said that he went to university to systematize all his knowledge of music in 22 years of working in the profession, and then to improve his professional knowledge. With a solid foundation, he believes that artists can go further in their career.

Recently, Nguyen Van Chung has been in high demand for invitations to speak at schools. He likes to share and inspire young people, and this requires teaching skills. Besides, his degree will protect him from opposing opinions such as: "What degree do you have to stand there and talk?"

Nguyen Van Chung was ready to study part-time but luckily his score was enough to pass the regular program. He was ready for the 4-year university journey like any other student, believing he would have to work twice as hard to balance work, family and study.
