Rooney reveals huge salary at MU

Legend Wayne Rooney surprised other former players when he revealed his income in the biggest contract of his career at MU.

In a conversation with Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright and Roy Keane, Rooney shared about the contract negotiation process when he was at MU. In 2014, at the age of 28, he signed a 5-year contract with a salary of 300,000 pounds/week. However, Rooney confirmed that he actually received 17 million pounds per year (about 350,000 pounds/week).

This figure immediately surprised the guests. Gary Neville even joked that he wished he had an agent when he was playing, because his salary only fluctuated between 1.75 million and 2.25 million pounds per year at Old Trafford.

Neville added: "Money has never been my priority. I just thought that if I could stay with MU until I was 35 or 36, everything would be fine. Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender, also revealed that his biggest contract was only about 3 million pounds/year. Roy Keane, legendary captain of MU, said the highest income he ever received was about 5 million pounds/year.
