Messi is now focused on Inter Miami with a new contract that runs until 2028. |
In an interview with Gulf Times , Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Saud, a prominent Saudi oil tycoon, openly expressed his ambition to recruit "El Pulga" with an unbelievable offer: $1 billion in cash immediately, plus an additional $500 million for Messi's appearances in Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the billionaire also wants to build a massive 80,000-seat stadium named after Messi.
"Even if the whole world turns its back on him, Saudi Arabia will always welcome and honor him," Sheikh Khalid declared. This invitation seems to allude to the controversies surrounding Messi after the 2022 World Cup, when he was criticized for his advertising contracts with Saudi Arabia.
According to Saudi Arabian media reports, Sheikh Khalid's offer of up to $1.5 billion included an exclusive contract for Messi and the right to name the billionaire's stadium after Leo.
Messi would also receive hundreds of millions of dollars if he agreed to play football in this country. The "Lionel Messi" stadium is expected to become an iconic landmark, combining modern technology and desert-inspired design, aiming to attract millions of fans worldwide.
However, this scenario is unlikely to materialize. Messi is still focused on Inter Miami with a new contract signed until 2028. Previously, in 2023, Messi rejected an offer from Al-Hilal with a salary of up to $400 million per year, prioritizing his family and lifestyle in Miami.
Leo currently serves as a tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia, earning $25 million per year, but there are no signs of him transitioning to professional football there.
