On the morning of May 27th, Neymar was in the stands at the Vila Belmiro stadium to watch Santos defeat Deportivo Cuenca 3-0 in the Copa Sudamericana.
Despite not playing, the 34-year-old star became the center of attention as Brazilian media repeatedly questioned him about the calf problem he suffered in the previous match against Coritiba.
Despite concerns about his availability for the 2026 World Cup, Neymar appeared quite relaxed. When asked about the condition of his calf ahead of joining the Brazilian national team, the former Barcelona striker simply replied: "It's still here, completely intact."
Shortly after, Neymar reacted even more strongly when a reporter mentioned the possibility of injury becoming a "problem" at the World Cup.
The Santos striker immediately retorted, "Is there a problem?". The short answer was enough to show the confident yet sharp demeanor of the striker who had been the leading figure for the "Selecao" for many years.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian national team's coaching staff remains vigilant. According to ESPN Brazil , coach Carlo Ancelotti and the medical team will give Neymar a separate training program when he joins the team at the Granja Comary training center in Teresopolis.
The Brazilian national team's goal is to control the workload to prevent Neymar's calf muscle swelling from worsening during the high-intensity preparation phase before the World Cup. Casemiro was the first player to join the squad on May 27th, while Neymar is expected to arrive the following day.
This season, Neymar has played 15 matches for Santos, scoring 6 goals and providing 4 assists. He has featured in 10 of the club's last 17 matches and is still included in Ancelotti's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The Brazilian national team will play friendly matches against Panama on May 31st and Egypt on June 6th before their World Cup opening match against Morocco on June 13th.
