Contestants will go through three main rounds: the Preliminary Round (April 6 - May 17, 2026), the Online Training Round (June 2 - June 28, 2026), and the Final Round - Hackathon, which will take place at VinUni University (July 2 - July 5, 2026 - tentative).

In the preliminary round, contestants register online in teams, with a maximum of 4 members per team. Contestants must meet the requirement of being currently enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students at universities across the Asian region.

The application package includes: an idea proposal and a video introduction. Based on the evaluation of the expert panel, the 30 best teams will be selected for the next round.

The competition encourages interdisciplinary ideas, combining multiple fields: technology, environment, economics , and social sciences, to create solutions that are both innovative, feasible, and socially valuable.

The ideas focus on three groups of challenges: renewable energy and low-emission transportation; urban air quality and climate change resilience; and water resources and climate-adaptive agriculture .

In the Online Training round, the top 30 teams will participate in a series of in-depth training and consultations with experts from various fields to gain additional specialized knowledge, stay updated on sustainable development trends and related technologies, thereby helping to refine and expand their solution ideas.

At the Final Round and Award Ceremony, all travel and accommodation costs will be fully covered for participating teams. Teams will then embark on a 24-hour hackathon challenge at VinUni University (Hanoi) to develop and refine their technological solutions before presenting them to the judging panel. From there, the top 9 outstanding teams will be selected for the final evaluation round to determine the winner.

The total prize pool for the competition is $24,000, including: 1st prize worth $8,000, 2nd prize worth $5,000, 2nd prizes worth $3,000 each, and 5 consolation prizes worth $1,000 each. In addition, participating teams will have the opportunity to network and learn from leading experts in the region, helping to expand their networks and increase access to the innovation ecosystem.

Dr. Le Thai Ha, Executive Director of the Foundation for Green Future and Head of the competition's organizing committee, said: “ Ideas that can change the future don't always originate from large laboratories or established organizations, but often stem from the keen insight, commitment, and desire to make a difference of the younger generation. Through the Asian Hackathon for Green Future, we hope that innovative ideas will be nurtured and developed into technological solutions that bring long-term value to the community.”

The Asian Hackathon for Green Future is expected to foster innovation linked to sustainable development, while contributing to the formation of a generation of young talents capable of cross-border collaboration and jointly creating solutions that bring positive and lasting impacts to the region.
