According to the Drug Administration, the unit has just received a document from the Center for Testing Drugs, Cosmetics, and Food of Thua Thien Hue province reporting that samples of CEFIXIM 200 film-coated tablets (cefixim 200 mg) show signs of being counterfeit.
Specifically, the counterfeit cefixim 200 mg antibiotic has registration number VD-28887-18, batch number 15030723, manufactured on July 3, 2023, with an expiration date of July 3, 2025, and is produced by Cuu Long Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company.
The counterfeit drug samples were taken by the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Center for Drug, Cosmetics, and Food Testing at Phu Khang Pharmacy (97 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Dong Ba Ward, Hue City, Thua Thien Hue Province).
The sample showed signs of being counterfeit, as per the previous guidelines from the Drug Administration regarding counterfeit Cefixim 200; upon quality control, the batch failed to meet the quality requirements for the qualitative test of cefixim according to the TCCS (Technical Standards for Pharmaceutical Products).
After reviewing and ensuring user safety, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Department of Health to urgently inspect Phu Khang Pharmacy's compliance with legal regulations in the pharmaceutical business.
Coordinate with relevant agencies to verify and trace the origin of the counterfeit Cefixim 200 product mentioned above. Report the results of the inspection, handling of violations, and origin of the counterfeit drug batch to the Drug Administration of Vietnam before August 23rd.

Cefixim is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as upper respiratory tract infections, bacterial pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, sinusitis; lower respiratory tract infections such as acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of bronchitis; acute cystitis, etc.
Cefixim should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cefixim or other cephalosporin antibiotics, or in patients with a history of anaphylactic shock due to penicillin.
