The provincial sports sector focuses on reviewing and selecting athletes to build a deep and high-quality workforce, aiming for high achievements at major national, regional, and international competitions. The province pays special attention to effectively implementing the selection and training of talented athletes. "In addition to maintaining and developing strong sports, the provincial sports sector prioritizes key investments to enable athletes to achieve success at competitions such as the SEA Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics," said Tran Nguyen Ba, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports.
To build a strong pool of future athletes, in addition to maintaining high professional standards, the Provincial Sports Training, Coaching, and Competition Center closely collaborates with local authorities to effectively select athletes at the grassroots level. The Center strengthens innovation and improves the quality of training; it invests in facilities, equipment, and training tools to maximize the effectiveness of sports talent training. Furthermore, it facilitates training and friendly competitions for athletes to learn from experience and improve their performance.

According to Dang Anh Kiet, Director of the Provincial Sports Training, Coaching and Competition Center, the center currently trains 705 athletes, including 183 senior athletes, 150 junior athletes, and 372 talented athletes, in 21 sports: cycling, swimming, Taekwondo, Karate, traditional martial arts, Vovinam, boxing, Pencak Silat, kickboxing, Wushu, canoeing, rowing, archery, athletics, bodybuilding, fitness, weightlifting, chess, beach volleyball, men's volleyball, and football.
From the beginning of 2025 until now, An Giang's high-performance sports have continued to make remarkable progress, further affirming the position of An Giang sports by contributing many achievements to the nation in strong disciplines such as cycling, weightlifting, bodybuilding, martial arts, and chess. The province's high-performance sports teams participated in 99 domestic and international competitions, winning 583 medals of all kinds, including 142 gold medals, 136 silver medals, and 258 bronze medals, of which 16 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals were won at international competitions. "The results achieved by the province's high-performance sports are very commendable, thereby encouraging athletes to continue striving and determined to achieve high results in domestic and international sports competitions in the remaining months of the year and in the following years," said Mr. Dang Anh Kiet.
According to Mr. Tran Nguyen Ba, in the coming time, the provincial sports sector will continue to innovate and improve the quality of training, creating conditions for athletes to train, compete in friendly matches, learn from experience, and improve their performance. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on selecting and building a successor generation of athletes to maintain and enhance An Giang's sports position in the region, nationally, and internationally. Athletes will continue to actively train in preparation for the tournaments at the end of 2025 and prepare the best possible force for the 10th National Sports Games in 2026.
