Remove giant tumor on patient's face
Patient VTTT, born in 2009, Mong ethnic group, living in Pung Luong commune, Mu Cang Chai, Lao Cai , has very difficult circumstances. Since childhood, T. did not live with his parents but was raised by his grandparents. T. has a mandibular osteoblastoma. The tumor grows every day, deforming his face, hindering daily activities, severely affecting his spirit and quality of life. However, because his family's circumstances are too difficult, the patient cannot afford treatment.
In mid-July, thanks to the help of benefactors, the patient was brought to the 108 Military Central Hospital. Upon receiving the patient, the doctors not only saw a complicated case but also sympathized with the disadvantaged fate of the girl from the highlands. With the consent of the Hospital's Board of Directors, the Center for Craniofacial and Plastic Surgery decided to perform the surgery completely free of charge for the patient.

The surgery was performed on July 28. After a thorough assessment and reconstruction of the lesion using modern 3D printing technology, the tumor was 15 x 10 x 6 cm in size, destroying nearly 2/3 of the lower jaw bone. Doctors assessed this as a major professional challenge.
After consultation, the doctor chose an advanced microsurgical technique, taking the fibula from the patient's leg to reconstruct the lost lower jaw bone, to restore the facial shape and create the premise for future dental implants.
For 9 continuous hours, the surgical team of 7 doctors, led by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quang Duc as the main surgeon, closely coordinated with the anesthesia team and nurses, successfully operated and removed the tumor on the patient's face.
After surgery, the patient received intensive care at the Intensive Care Center, 108 Military Central Hospital, her health gradually stabilized, her face somewhat restored its original beauty. Looking at her face, it was balanced again, and her eyes were brighter.
According to the doctor's assessment, patient T. will be discharged about 1 week after surgery. In addition to supporting all treatment costs, the hospital also arranges accommodation for T.'s companion.
Spread kindness
Talking about the case of patient VTTT, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quang Duc - Director of the Center for Craniofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery was moved: "When I saw T. entering the clinic with a face deformed by a tumor, I not only saw a difficult case but also saw a sad, closed look, the look of a child who had suffered too much since birth. We understand that what he needs is not only a successful surgery, but also an opportunity for him to live up to his age: to smile, to go to school, to integrate with friends".

Although we knew this was a very complicated major surgery that involved both aesthetic and functional factors and had a high risk of blood loss, the doctors did not hesitate. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quang Duc shared: As doctors and soldiers, we understand the pain of the patient, especially a child from an ethnic minority, in a place where medical conditions are limited. This is a responsibility, but also an order from the heart. We did everything with unanimity, dedication and the best that modern medicine can bring...
