SpaceX crew returns to Earth after historic flight.

The Crew Dragon spacecraft, carrying four astronauts, landed off the coast of Dry Tortugas, Florida (USA) at 3:37 AM Eastern Time on September 15th (2:37 PM on September 15th in Vietnam).

The Polaris Dawn mission made history by reaching a greater altitude than any crewed flight in the past five decades. The crew's early morning spacewalk on September 12th was also the first privately funded and operated spacewalk.

The return to Earth during this mission was also one of the most dangerous stages for the astronauts. The spacecraft reached extremely high temperatures, up to 1,900 degrees Celsius, due to the pressure and friction caused by impact with the atmosphere while still traveling at a speed of approximately 27,000 km/h. The vehicle began to slow down before deploying parachutes to continue its descent.

After reaching the ocean, the spacecraft was rescued by a waiting team and transferred to a special boat. Final safety checks took place there before the crew disembarked and began their journey back to land.

The Polaris Dawn crew includes mission commander Jared Isaacman, CEO of the financial firm Shift4 Payments; former U.S. Air Force pilot Scott "Kidd" Poteet; and two SpaceX operations engineers, Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis.

Their mission broke the record for altitude, reaching an orbit around Earth of 1,400 km. That is the highest Earth orbit humans have ever reached since the last flight to the Moon in the Apollo program in 1972.

After breaking the altitude record, the Crew Dragon spacecraft descended for the spacewalk. Isaacman and Gillis exited the spacecraft for about 10 minutes, performing a series of tests to understand the functionality of the EVA spacesuits designed for spacewalk missions, then retreated inside and locked the door. The spacewalk proceeded without major problems.
