Tran Thanh has just shared information that the movie Mai has set a record after 2 weeks of showing in North America and Europe. The movie has earned 2 million USD at the international box office.

With this achievement, Tran Thanh's film became the first Vietnamese film to have the highest revenue of all time in two continents.

Launched internationally on March 22, the film Mai was shown in nearly 200 theaters in 9 countries and territories such as the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia... Entering its 3rd week of release, the film currently has a total global box office revenue of 23 million USD.

The success of

The success of "Mai" at the domestic and international box office shows Tran Thanh's talent.

Sharing with Deadline, Thien A Pham, representative of the film's international distribution unit, said that Mai's success shows the ability of Vietnamese films to reach foreign audiences.

"Mai's $2 million international box office is a very exciting achievement. Three years ago, $1 million at the US box office was unheard of, and by 2024, $2 million in North America and Europe is almost unimaginable. Mai's international box office success shows its ability to reach international audiences," he said.

Before Mai, Tran Thanh's film Bo Gia also set an impressive record for Vietnamese films with a revenue of 1.3 million USD after 8 weeks of showing in North America in 2021.

Mai is considered Tran Thanh's best film to date. The film revolves around the life of the female lead named Mai (Phuong Anh Dao), a nearly 40-year-old masseuse, who accidentally meets musician Duong (Tuan Tran) and is pursued by him. Lacking self-confidence, Mai does not have the courage to accept the feelings of a guy 7 years her junior.

Compared to the two films "Nha Ba Nu" and "Bo Gia", Tran Thanh's "Mai" received the least mixed reviews. Tran Thanh showed a clear improvement, from the camera angle, the way the scenes were changed to the way the story was told. The film no longer had too many scenes of arguing and "market" dialogue between the characters.
