From real cases to movies

“Trang An Firewall”, produced by Hanoi Radio and Television, is the first TV series in Vietnam to go straight into high-tech crime cases, especially virtual currency and online fraud. The film opens a tense battle of wits between the police force and a large-scale “virtual currency” ring, built from a series of real cases that Hanoi City Police busted at the end of 2024. Notably, the “Mr. Pips” case (Le Khac Ngo) with 48 subjects arrested and prosecuted, along with assets frozen worth more than 5,300 billion VND.

The film has a special meaning when it was deployed at a time when Hanoi was the place where the “United Nations Convention against Cybercrime” (Hanoi Convention) was signed at the end of October 2025. In the context of global efforts to establish “firewalls” to protect cyberspace, “Trang An Firewall” appears as a companion voice, spreading the spirit of responsibility and international cooperation.

Regarding the idea of forming the film, journalist Nguyen Trung Son, Deputy General Director of Hanoi Radio and Television Station, who is also the co-screenwriter, shared: "In early 2025, at a meeting with voters in the capital, people made many suggestions about the issue of cybercrime.

Also at that event, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of Hanoi City Police, reported in detail on major fraud cases that the City Police had cracked down on in recent years. In that situation, Hanoi Radio and Television determined that reflecting high-tech fraud tricks through cinematic language is part of the political propaganda mission of the press and media agencies, helping people identify, be vigilant and proactively protect themselves.

According to screenwriter Vu Liem, who has a lot of experience with crime films, the film maintains a ratio of 50% reality - 50% creativity. The professional details included in the film are carefully selected, using only techniques that are not classified as professional secrets, to create authenticity while still ensuring information security.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of Hanoi City Police, highly appreciated the accuracy of the work: “Cybercrime cases are always very difficult because the criminals are hidden deep, they cannot meet, and all traces are virtual. Putting it on film is not easy, but “Trang An Firewall” has reflected reality with a very high degree of accuracy.”

Join hands to build a "firewall" to block crime

In recent years, along with the explosion of social networks, cyber fraud has escalated rapidly, leaving behind heavy losses and constant worries in life. According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Security , from the end of 2019 to mid-2024, online fraud cases caused losses of more than 12,000 billion VND. In Hanoi alone, in the first 10 months of 2025, the authorities discovered 1,787 cases of fraud and property appropriation, accounting for 35% of the total number of criminal cases, with a total loss of more than 925 billion VND. In that situation, the Hanoi Party Committee assigned the press and media agencies to produce multimedia programs to propagate and fight high-tech crimes, in which movies are an effective method.

The film “The Firewall of Trang An” exploits the theme of dramatic criminal investigation but the narrative is close and everyday, helping the audience to follow the story and raise their vigilance. The film recreates the tense battle of wits between the police force and a high-tech criminal ring specializing in fraud, while also exposing a series of psychological manipulation tricks through seminars and disguised “get rich training” classes. The promises of “financial freedom” and “super high profits” - which are familiar tricks, are clearly shown, showing how tens of thousands of people are easily caught up in a spiral of loss of control. At the same time, the journey of tracing and decoding money laundering tricks and complex layers of encryption are realistically portrayed, creating an attractive film that is still imbued with warning elements.

The film brings together many talented faces of the Vietnamese screen. In particular, Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai plays the role of Colonel Hoang - Head of the Criminal Investigation Department PC02, a sharp and decisive commander. Meritorious Artist Trinh Mai Nguyen takes on the role of Major General Bach, Deputy Director of the City Police, representing the courage and strategic vision of the investigation force. Actor Doan Quoc Dam plays the role of Long - a technology expert with a sharp mind but accidentally gets caught up in a large-scale virtual currency scam. Besides, there is also the presence of Thuy Anh, Quynh Chau, Long Vu, Thanh Binh...

Since its broadcast (November 7), the film has attracted hundreds of thousands of views on digital platforms and tens of thousands of supportive comments, because the story accurately reflects the hot issues of digital life. As shared by Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai, the situations in the film help the audience gain a deeper understanding of cybercrime - a problem that is knocking on every family's door. That is also the film's expectation to join hands in building a "firewall" to block crime, contributing to raising public awareness of information security, and accompanying the authorities in protecting national cyber security.
