Norwegian Parliament Speaker Masud Gharakhani warmly welcomed Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and the high-level Vietnamese delegation on their official visit to the Kingdom of Norway, expressing confidence that the Vice President's visit would contribute to expanding and deepening the traditional friendship and well-developing cooperation between the two countries.

The Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament was very impressed by Vietnam's national development achievements and its active participation in addressing global challenges, especially climate change, with its commitment to achieving net emissions of "zero" by 2050. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan also expressed her pleasure at making her first official visit to the Kingdom of Norway, given the positive progress in cooperation between the two countries.

The Vice President congratulated the Norwegian Government, Parliament, and people on their significant efforts to make the country one of the most livable in the world and to give it an important voice on the international stage.

During the meeting, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan informed Speaker of Parliament Masud Gharakhani about the tangible results achieved during her talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and her meeting with Crown Prince Haakon Magnus, and outlined some directions to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.

The Vice President requested the Norwegian Parliament to support the establishment of legal frameworks to facilitate bilateral cooperation in areas of strength and need for both countries, such as green transition, climate change, and circular economy.

The Vice President also expressed his hope that Norway would promote the early signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the EFTA bloc, and provide Vietnam with financial support, experience in institution building, and human resource training to realize international commitments, including those made at COP26 and within the framework of JETP.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan thanked Norway for providing Vietnam with effective development assistance, helping Vietnam successfully achieve its Millennium Development Goals, and expressed hope that the two sides would continue to cooperate in areas such as fisheries, climate change, and supporting people in remote areas.

Pleased with the tangible and effective results achieved at the talks and meetings with Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, the Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament agreed that both sides need to strengthen cooperation to take advantage of existing potential and strengths, with the Norwegian Parliament supporting cooperation on green transition and facilitating cooperation between Norwegian businesses and Vietnamese partners.

Both sides also agreed to pay more attention to cooperation in the fields of culture, education and training, science and technology, and gender equality. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two Parliaments in the overall bilateral relationship, both sides supported strengthening exchange visits between the two Parliaments, sharing experiences in policy and lawmaking, and addressing challenges in the socio-economic development of each country.

On this occasion, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan conveyed the invitation from the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue, to the Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament to visit Vietnam.
