Since the end of June, the People's Committee of Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) has opened Bai Tho walking street. This is one of the 8 new tourism products of this locality in 2023 to innovate service quality and attract tourists.

A group of vendors with statue painting service tables at Bai Tho walking street sat all night but no one came.

Bai Tho walking street is deployed on 2 streets: Long Tien and Le Quy Don (Bach Dang Ward, Ha Long City), with a length of nearly 400m, passing through 17 residential groups with more than 500 households. The walking street operates from 18 to 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays every week.

When it first opened in the first weeks, this place was bustling with locals and tourists. However, after more than a month, Bai Tho walking street has gradually fallen into oblivion, with traders "crying" because of poor business.

Mr. Pham Van Tung (48 years old, Bach Dang Ward, Ha Long City) said: "I see that Bai Tho walking street follows a rut, the services are not rich and diverse, especially there are no typical products. Shops sell Chinese toys, and the cuisine is mainly low-quality snacks."

Talking to Thanh Nien , Ms. Le Hoai Thu, Director of Halotour Tourism Company, said: "Many groups of tourists when coming to Bai Tho walking street all want to leave early because this place has no special services. Right at the location, choosing this area is considered by many to be a mistake, because there are almost no shops and restaurants."

"The walking street is a place for nightlife, visitors come here to enjoy vibrant entertainment services instead of having to walk until their legs are tired and then go to bed. If it continues like this, sooner or later Bai Tho walking street will fail and close early," said Ms. Thu.

According to Thanh Nien reporters, during the opening period last week, Bai Tho walking street closed quite early. By 10 p.m., almost no one was around, and the shops were "closed and locked".

Below are pictures of Bai Tho walking street open but… no pedestrians:

At the beginning of the evening, around 8pm, the situation was not better, when only the people in the neighborhood opened their doors to sit and enjoy the cool air.

Many locals and tourists believe that the lack of uniqueness and bland products caused Bai Tho walking street to die young.

It's only 10pm but people's cars have already been brought to the walking street.
