Advantages from the sea and lagoons

Located in the northeastern part of the expanded Hue city metropolitan area, Phong Quang ward possesses a favorable geographical position for tourism and service development. “To the east is the sea with fine white sand beaches; to the west is the Tam Giang lagoon system, the largest brackish water lagoon in Southeast Asia. These are the advantages for developing the local coastal and lagoon tourism,” shared Mr. Hoang Van Suu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phong Quang ward.

Many believe Phong Quang is a "gold mine" for tourism and services, but it remains largely untapped. The combination of the flat beach and Tam Giang lagoon offers the area unique experiences. According to local residents, the ideal time to develop tourism and services in Phong Quang is from April to September each year, when the sea is calm, the sun is shining, and the lagoon is tranquil.

“The locality boasts many beautiful beaches such as Hai Nhuan, Hai Phu, Tan My, Cuong Giang, Tan Thanh, An Loc… with moderate depth, clear blue water, and long stretches of white sand, still retaining their pristine, peaceful charm, making them very suitable for camping, relaxation, and watching the sunrise,” proudly stated Mr. Phan Chu, a resident of Phong Quang ward.

Along with its long stretches of white sandy beaches, the tranquil Tam Giang lagoon is also an advantage for the locality to "stimulate" tourism and services through activities such as visiting the bamboo fishing net system, experiencing seafood harvesting, watching the sunset over the lagoon, or visiting traditional fishing villages.

Many visitors to Phong Quang affirm that the local cuisine is a fusion of seafood from the sea and lagoon specialties. Freshwater shrimp, kingfish, squid from the coastal areas… along with traditional fish sauce products from local villages have attracted and delighted them. The system of beachfront homestays and community tourism destinations is constantly being renovated and upgraded; numerous campsites on Phong Quang beaches create tourism spaces and services that attract young visitors.

Diverse activities to attract

Mr. Hoang Van Suu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phong Quang Ward, informed: “This year, the ward is organizing the beach tourism season from April to September with many diverse activities. From April 24th to 26th, a series of programs will take place, including boat races on the sea, traditional stalls, entertainment activities, and especially the opening ceremony of the beach tourism season with the theme "Phong Quang - Aspiration for the Blue Sea". This is expected to be a highlight attracting tourists right from the beginning of the summer of 2026 in Phong Quang.”

With numerous solutions proposed to stimulate demand, Phong Quang has identified the effective exploitation of its marine potential, coupled with sustainable tourism and service development, as a long-term goal. Besides establishing community beaches with integrated infrastructure investment, the locality also focuses on developing distinctive tourism products associated with the sea and lagoons.

The creation of seafood culinary spaces, coastal night markets, and the integration of folk cultural activities will contribute to extending the length of stay for tourists. Simultaneously, enhanced promotion, linking tours and routes with neighboring destinations, and a focus on protecting the ecological environment will create a foundation for the sustainable development of Phong Quang's coastal and lagoon tourism.

“It’s crucial to make a difference. To do that, we need to start by developing unique tourism products that are linked to the experiences of fishermen’s lives. Visiting lagoons, fishing, paddleboarding, recreational fishing, or discovering sunsets on the water are all activities that need to be implemented. Developing community-based tourism is a suitable direction, where people participate in providing accommodation and food services, as well as guiding people through traditional crafts. This contributes to increasing people’s income while preserving local culture,” Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Phong Quang Ward, expressed his expectations.
