Outside the Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test center, the atmosphere remained tense even after the candidates had entered the examination rooms.
Many parents stood huddled under the shade of trees. They constantly checked their watches, glancing towards the school gate, waiting for another reassuring sign after their children had completed the procedures to enter the examination room.
Some parents also took the opportunity to ask each other more about the majors, previous years' admission scores, and the school's training program in preparation for the upcoming admissions period.

During that time, the volunteers not only supported the candidates. Once the candidates were settled in the exam room, they moved on to assisting the parents. Some guided parents to cooler seating areas. Others helped them buy water. Some patiently answered questions related to exam time, candidate pick-up areas, and basic admissions information.
Nguyen Tran Cao Nguyen, a student at the University of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the work of volunteers on exam day doesn't stop at giving directions, distributing water, or reminding candidates to check their documents. According to Nguyen, parents also need attention during the exam season.

For parents, their child's exam day is also a stressful waiting period. They worry whether their child will finish the exam on time or remain calm in front of the test questions.

Nguyen recounted that many parents took advantage of the time while waiting for their children to ask more about the school's training programs. Some wanted to know what the program entailed. Others inquired about career opportunities after graduation. Some parents were interested in the admission scores from previous years to estimate their child's chances. "We are always ready to support you to the best of our ability. We hope to alleviate some of the pressure for both candidates and parents," Nguyen said.
Truong Kim Huong, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, said that each exam season leaves her with many emotions. According to Huong, behind the nervousness of the candidates is the silent anxiety of the parents.
Huong recounted that some parents brought their children to the exam site very early. Even after their children had entered the exam room, they didn't leave. Some lingered at the school gate for quite a while. Some were worried their children wouldn't do well on the exam, while others were concerned their children would lose their composure when faced with difficult questions.

Regardless of the weather, they wholeheartedly helped the parents.

"It was scorching hot, but the parents were still waiting for their children. Seeing that, we went over to ask how they were doing, guided them to a cool place, and reassured them. Sometimes, just a simple question can help parents feel less worried," Huong shared.
Nguyen Diem My, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, believes that parents face a lot of pressure during exam season. Many are even more anxious than the candidates themselves. Therefore, the volunteers try to maintain a cheerful attitude, speak gently, and clearly explain the information parents need.
According to My, parents often ask about the exam duration, the time candidates leave the exam room, the waiting area for their children, and how to check the results. These questions aren't overly complicated. However, if answered promptly, parents will feel less anxious while waiting.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, a parent of a student at Nguyen Cong Tru High School in Ho Chi Minh City, said she traveled quite a distance to bring her child to the exam site. Afraid her child would be late, the two of them left early. After her child entered the exam room, she remained outside the school gate to wait.

Thanks to the support of parents and volunteers, the candidates said they performed well on the exam.

"It was sunny, so I was tired. But seeing the volunteers running back and forth, assisting the candidates and their parents, I was very touched. They didn't mind the sun, and they answered everyone's questions attentively," said Mrs. Mai.

Not only parents, but also candidates felt this support before entering the exam room. Tran Anh Thu, a student from Ly Thuong Kiet High School in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the guidance from the volunteer students helped her feel calmer.
"I was a little nervous when I first arrived at the exam site. Thanks to the instructors who guided me to the exam room, encouraged me, and reminded me to check my documents, I felt less anxious. I did quite well on the exam," Thu said.
