The Southwestern Sea and Island Economic-Defense Group (Codename: 925 Economic-Defense Group) under Military Region 9 was established under Decision No. 1720 dated April 24, 2025 of the Ministry of National Defense . The 925 Economic-Defense Group has the task of building forces, training combat readiness, participating in labor production, coordinating to ensure social security, supporting people to develop marine economic sectors, preventing and fighting natural disasters, searching and rescuing, and protecting the sovereignty of the Southwestern sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San emphasized that the establishment of the 925th Economic -Defense Group is of great significance, an objective necessity, consistent with reality, demonstrating a new mindset and vision in adjusting the organization of the Army, meeting the requirements of consolidating national defense, building and protecting the Fatherland in the new period. This is the concern of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and the consensus and support of local Party committees and authorities.
