The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has just sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Construction for consideration and submission to the Prime Minister to assign Vietnam Railway Corporation as the investor of the national railway branch line project (Tri Binh - Dung Quat route), Quang Ngai province.
The national railway branch project (Tri Binh - Dung Quat route), Quang Ngai province has an estimated length of 14.3 km with the starting point at Tri Binh station in Binh Son commune, Quang Ngai province; the ending point at Dung Quat Port station in Van Tuong commune, Quang Ngai province.
The route passes through the communes of Binh Son and Van Tuong, Quang Ngai province; the maintenance facility, technical depot, and energy charging station are located at Dung Quat Port station in Van Tuong commune, Quang Ngai province.
Because the national railway branch line (Tri Binh - Dung Quat port line) connects to Tri Binh station on the existing Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City unified railway line with a gauge of 1,000 mm, the standards applied to the Project are TCVN 8893:2020, national railway technical level TCVN 11793:2017, railway gauge of 1,000 mm.
The total estimated investment of the Project is about 1,000 billion VND, from the central budget. The Project implementation period is from 2026 to 2028. Quang Ngai Province will carry out site clearance work according to the allocated project budget.
The leaders of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee assessed that the national railway branch project (Tri Binh - Dung Quat route) will increase the connectivity of the railway to major cargo hubs such as seaports and industrial parks; facilitate the combination with other modes of transport in the region; promote coastal cargo transport activities of Quang Ngai seaport, serving the socio-economic development of Quang Ngai province in particular, the whole country and the Central Coast region in general.
It is known that Dung Quat Economic Zone is the key point of attracting investment and development of Quang Ngai province, the Central region in particular and the whole country in general; with the advantage of a deep-water seaport, the volume of goods passing through now and in the future is very large.
The seaport system in Dung Quat Economic Zone is a combination of general ports and specialized ports serving the import and export of industrial products of metallurgy, petrochemicals, mechanical components, anchoring, building and repairing ships... serving ships with a tonnage of up to 200,000 tons; in the near future, it will serve the activities of the Central Electricity Center, the National Center for Science, Petrochemistry and Energy...
Dung Quat Economic Zone is located very close to the national railway but has not been invested in connection, increasing logistics costs, limiting the competitiveness and investment attraction of Dung Quat Economic Zone.
According to forecasts by 2030, the total demand for goods through Quang Ngai seaport in the period up to 2030 will reach about 47.8 ÷ 48.2 million tons; the volume of goods through Dung Quat I port will reach about 38.8 million tons, of which the forecast volume of goods transported by rail will reach about 2.72 million tons (accounting for about 7%), ensuring to meet the market share of rail transport on each corridor (from 3% to 11%).
According to the Railway Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the investment roadmap to 2030 includes a railway branch connecting Dung Quat seaport and a new direction to open An Tan station (Diem Pho - Tri Binh section) on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line connecting Dung Quat port (Quang Ngai).
