A home camera in Gia Lai recorded the moment of shaking caused by a 4.9 magnitude earthquake - Video : Van Anh - Thanh Tra
In the early morning of October 6, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences, said that consecutive earthquakes occurred in Mang But commune, Quang Ngai province (Kon Plong district, old Kon Tum ).
Specifically, at 1:28 a.m. on October 6, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Mang But commune, with a focal depth of about 8.1 km. Disaster risk warning level 1.
On social networks, many people in Gia Lai, Da Nang , Hue... said they also felt strong tremors from the 4.9 magnitude earthquake.
Ms. Van Anh (in Pleiku, Gia Lai) said she was sleeping when she was suddenly woken up by a strong shaking that lasted for about 5-7 seconds.
Mr. Vy Hoang (in Hoi An, Da Nang) said he also felt the shaking clearly for about 5 seconds.
"I was sleeping when I felt the bed shaking and shaking, waking me up. It was the first time I felt an earthquake," Hoang shared.

Previously, from approximately 6:58 p.m. to 11:56 p.m. on October 5, 10 consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.3 occurred in Mang But commune.
Among them, two earthquakes of magnitude 4.2 and 4.3 occurred at 6:55 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on October 5. The remaining earthquakes ranged from 2.5 to 3.6 magnitude.
Thus, from last night to 1:46 a.m. on October 6, 14 consecutive earthquakes occurred in Mang But commune.
The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences is continuing to monitor this earthquake.
From 2021 to present, hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in Quang Ngai (formerly Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province), including earthquakes that caused widespread tremors.
The largest was the earthquake at noon on July 28, 2024 with a magnitude of 5, before that on August 23, 2022 was a magnitude 4.7 earthquake.
Previously, Mr. Xuan Anh said that "triggered earthquakes" were the cause of earthquakes in recent years in Kon Tum province (old).
"According to preliminary studies, earthquakes in Kon Tum (old) are forecast to continue in the coming time but are unlikely to be greater than 5.5 magnitude. However, more detailed studies are still needed to assess earthquake activity in this area," said Mr. Xuan Anh.
In Vietnam, earthquakes of magnitude 4-5 are considered minor earthquakes. When an earthquake occurs, objects in the house vibrate and make noise. Many people feel the earthquake. People outside the house feel a slight vibration.
Generally no damage or minor damage. Moderate to significant damage is rare. Some household items may fall.
Average frequency of occurrence worldwide is 10,000 - 15,000 matches per year.
