The first-generation Cayenne, launched at the beginning of the 21st century, was considered a "culprit" by many true Porsche enthusiasts for disrupting the purebred sports car lineup. However, the Cayenne quickly became the best-selling model in the brand's history, with a host of variants. The Cayenne GTS boasts 405 horsepower (positioned between the 385-horsepower Cayenne S and the 500-horsepower Cayenne Turbo). Notably, the first-generation GTS also offered a 6-speed manual transmission option.
The Sonderwunsch program has undertaken a project to restore this first-generation Porsche Cayenne GTS luxury sports SUV to a condition even better than when it left the factory. The car, owned by an American businessman, had 50,000 miles (80,000 km) on the odometer and was sent to the Porsche factory. For the first time, the team focused on restoring an SUV instead of a classic sports car – the Carrera GT.
Nevertheless, this first-generation Porsche Cayenne GTS SUV is still the best finished vehicle. The owner shared that he drew inspiration from the 911 Spirit 70 – a special edition paying homage to the style of the 1970s.
He also requested that the trailer hitch be kept because he dreams of one day towing the Airstream across the desert near Dubai. A highlight of the vehicle's side profile is the off-road walking tires. The distinctive Blackolive paint color, combined with premium English Green leather upholstery and the classic black and olive green Pasha pattern, appears on the seat cushions and inside the glove compartments. Standard features on the Cayenne GTS include: a dual-zone automatic climate control system with air filter; an infotainment system with AM/FM/CD/MP3 connectivity and 11 Bose speakers... but the interior has been redesigned to be more visually appealing.
Originally, the car was equipped with quite a few "toys" such as: an air suspension system that allows the vehicle height to be raised or lowered by 20mm, and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system. The first-generation Cayenne SUV didn't receive the same acclaim as other Porsche sports cars, but it remains a significant milestone in the company's history.
