On the afternoon of November 30, Quang Ngai General Hospital activated the internal red alert to receive and provide emergency care to 13 students who were injured in a tractor-trailer accident in Ca Dam commune.

Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Van Danh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Dam commune - said that a tractor carrying glue suddenly rolled down a slope when it stopped. When the vehicle had an accident, a group of hyperactive students climbed onto the truck and fell onto the road.

"This was an unexpected accident. Luckily, the children were taken to the emergency room very quickly and are now stable. Among the injured was the car owner's child," said Mr. Danh.

As soon as receiving the information, Quang Ngai General Hospital raised the internal red alert, mobilizing almost all on-duty forces: emergency department, eye, ear, nose and throat, dermatology, maxillofacial, diagnostic imaging, and trauma and orthopedic surgery teams - burns, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, anesthesia and resuscitation... to participate in classifying and treating wounds for each patient.

Many students were hospitalized with multiple injuries to the limbs, head, face, and torso; some had signs of traumatic brain injury. Thanks to the red alert, the emergency procedure was shortened to the maximum, and each group of children was coordinated to the right professional team.

Doctor Nguyen Thai Hung, Deputy Director of the hospital, said that the urgent and smooth coordination between departments helped to minimize complications.

"The children were treated promptly, preventing any negative developments. All of them are now out of danger," Mr. Hung said.

Of the 13 injured students, one was transferred to another hospital by his family, while the rest continued to be monitored and given intensive care at the hospital.

The Ca Dam commune authorities said they will step up propaganda so that people, especially children, do not cling to rudimentary vehicles when they are stopped or in operation. "This accident is a great lesson," Mr. Danh shared.
