General Secretary To Lam meets with Lao Prime Minister Son-xay Siphan-don

(CPV) - On the afternoon of December 1, in Vientiane, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with Lao Prime Minister Son-xay Siphan-don on the occasion of leading a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to visit Laos for the first time in his capacity as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Lao Prime Minister Son-xay Siphan-don was pleased to meet General Secretary To Lam again and highly appreciated the State visit to Laos by the General Secretary, his wife and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam; emphasizing that the presence of General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam had made an important contribution to the success of the 50th Anniversary of Laos' National Day. The Lao Prime Minister congratulated the General Secretary on receiving the Gold Medal, a noble award that the Lao Party and State recognized General Secretary To Lam's contributions to the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries.

The Lao Prime Minister congratulated Vietnam on the achievements it has made under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam over the past 95 years, which have become a great source of encouragement for Laos in its development process. The Lao Prime Minister congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing important multilateral foreign affairs activities in 2025, including the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF), the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit and the Opening Ceremony of the Signing of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime.

Prime Minister Son-xay Siphan-don deeply sympathized with the Party, State and people of Vietnam over the loss of life and property in the recent storms and floods and firmly believed that people in the affected areas will soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

The Lao Prime Minister thanked General Secretary To Lam for always paying attention and closely directing the Vietnamese Government in coordinating with the Lao side to implement high-level agreements, especially in economic cooperation; at the same time, he affirmed that he would direct ministries, branches, localities and relevant agencies to actively resolve difficulties of Vietnamese enterprises, create more favorable conditions for enterprises investing in Laos, and at the same time connect and improve the investment environment substantially, encouraging large Vietnamese corporations to continue expanding their investment in Laos.

General Secretary To Lam warmly congratulated the great achievements in socio-economic development of the country and the Lao people; expressed his belief that under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the resolute management of the Government, along with the spirit of solidarity and close coordination of all levels and sectors, the country and people of Laos will overcome difficulties, develop strongly, successfully organize the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, and successfully build a peaceful, independent, democratic, unified and prosperous Laos.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam always gives top priority to consolidating and strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos. The two sides' consolidation of political trust; efforts and consensus to resolve pending projects, find new directions for each cooperation area, taking the interests of the people as the center; and close coordination to ensure security, safety, political and social stability in each country demonstrate a deep common awareness from central leaders to ministries, branches and localities about the unique relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

The General Secretary shared with the Lao Prime Minister the results of his talks with General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, agreeing on extremely important contents for the bilateral relationship in the new era of development, including strategic connectivity; and requested the two Prime Ministers to continue directing the agencies of the two countries to closely coordinate and actively implement the commitments and agreements of the two countries' senior leaders.

The two sides highly appreciated the efforts of relevant ministries and branches of the two countries in coordinating and promoting the completion of a number of typical projects, marking an important occasion on the occasion of this visit, such as putting into use the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Park in Vientiane Capital and the inauguration ceremony of the Friendship Hospital in Hua Phan province.

The General Secretary suggested that the two countries continue to strengthen political trust, maintain delegation exchanges and high-level contacts on all channels, and organize well the 48th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, which took place right after the High-level Meeting of the two Parties on December 2, to implement the results of the high-level talks and high-level agreements between the two countries, including strategic connectivity, strategic connectivity on development vision, connectivity of space and infrastructure, economic corridors, logistics, energy, and green transformation. The two sides need to promote more practical and effective economic cooperation, becoming a real pillar in the comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos, continue to implement key cooperation projects, ensure progress; promote connectivity projects, especially in the fields of transport and energy, strive to achieve the trade growth target of 5 billion USD, towards the target of 10 billion USD in the coming years.

With defense and security cooperation being a pillar of cooperation, originating from the natural factors between the two neighboring countries, sharing the same goals and interests in building a peaceful and stable country, the General Secretary suggested that both sides promote this pillar of cooperation, maintain political and social stability, protect and do a good job in border work.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to supporting Laos in improving the quality of human resources and will continue to prioritize training of cadres, especially strategic leaders and key managers at all levels, in order to form a contingent of cadres with full capacity and deep awareness of the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos. The General Secretary suggested that the two sides coordinate to promote propaganda and education on the tradition of special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, especially for the younger generation; and promote cooperation between localities, especially key provinces in terms of security and economy with the two countries, and border localities.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two sides increase information sharing, closely coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums and sub-regional mechanisms; deepen the cooperation and connectivity process of the ASEAN Community, enhance solidarity and the central role of ASEAN and maintain ASEAN's common voice in regional strategic issues./.
