General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, paid a state visit to Laos and attended the 50th anniversary of Laos' National Day from December 1-2 at the invitation of General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife.
The visit takes place at a very important time when Laos celebrates the 50th anniversary of its National Day (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2025) and in the period before the Congress of the two Parties to be held in 2026.
The visit continues to affirm the determination of the leaders of the two Parties and countries to always pay special attention to inheriting and promoting the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, and Laos and Vietnam, developing them in accordance with the requirements, visions, and strategic interests of the two countries in the new period.
One of the important activities of the visit is the high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. This is the most important mechanism in the cooperative relationship between the two Parties and the two countries.
The leaders of the two sides will have the opportunity to exchange information about the situation of each Party and each country, evaluate the results of bilateral cooperation in recent times and propose orientations for developing strategic and long-term relations.
General Secretary To Lam will hold talks and meet with senior Lao leaders and attend the 50th Anniversary of Lao National Day - one of Laos' major commemorative events this year.

The rich and meaningful activities during this visit will continue to consolidate and affirm the high-level common awareness between the leaders of the two countries, emphasizing that the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos are invaluable assets, important and core factors for the special friendship relationship "Vietnam and Laos, our two countries/ Love is deeper than the Red River and Mekong River" as President Ho Chi Minh once affirmed.
Promoting the good historical tradition, in 2025, the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries will continue to develop, be close and trustworthy. After the High-level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (February 2025), promoting existing cooperation mechanisms, while reviewing, adjusting and building new mechanisms, the two sides focused on exchanging strategic issues, guidelines and policies related to security and development.
The two sides maintain exchanges of high-level delegations and delegations at all levels in many forms, as well as successfully organize many important foreign affairs activities between senior leaders of the two Parties and two States.
Bilateral trade turnover in the first 10 months of the year is estimated at 2.6 billion USD, up 50.41% over the same period in 2024, of which exports reached 968.4 million USD, up 72.9% over the same period in 2024, and imports reached 1.632 billion USD, up 39.4% over the same period in 2024. The two sides strive to increase two-way trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the coming years./.
