Vietnam is one of the few developing countries that has maintained a stable rate of multidimensional poverty reduction.

According to the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Vietnam is one of the few developing countries that has maintained a stable rate of multidimensional poverty reduction for more than two decades. Policies focusing on education , health, income improvement and living conditions have helped the poverty rate decrease sharply in many regions, especially in mountainous and remote areas. UNDP highly appreciates the way Vietnam has shifted from "income poverty reduction" to "multidimensional poverty reduction", helping people have better access to basic services and increasing the ability to escape poverty sustainably.

The World Bank (WB) also believes that Vietnam is a model in combining economic growth with social security policies. According to WB, the strategy of investing in infrastructure, transforming livelihoods and developing sustainable agriculture has created an important foundation for people to proactively rise up. WB emphasizes the role of an increasingly accurate poverty data system, helping support policies reach the right people, in the right place, and with the right needs.

Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) particularly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts in enhancing community capacity, empowering people to participate in the planning and monitoring of development programs. ADB said that the “Developing State – Active People” model has helped Vietnam achieve remarkable results, especially in the northern mountainous provinces, the Central Highlands and the central coast.

Not only appreciating the achievements, many international organizations also accompanied with technical assistance programs, preferential loans and direct funding for the community. UNICEF cooperated with many disadvantaged provinces to improve nutrition services, education and child protection - one of the most vulnerable groups. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supported farmers in drought and saline areas to change their farming models and adapt to climate change. The European Union (EU) and the Government of Japan also implemented many programs to support green agriculture development, vocational training and improve livelihoods for people in disadvantaged areas.

In particular, many international organizations have recognized the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement of the Vietnamese people. This transformation is reflected in the people's initiative in learning a trade, participating in cooperatives, developing new livelihood models and boldly applying technology to production. In mountainous areas, the awareness of building a cultural life, reducing backward customs and focusing on children's education is contributing to creating an important foundation for sustainable poverty reduction.

Positive assessments from the international community show that Vietnam is on the right track in multidimensional poverty reduction. At the same time, support from international friends continues to be a valuable resource to help Vietnam become more confident in its journey to improve the quality of life for its people, gradually narrow the development gap between regions and move towards the goal of “leaving no one behind”.
