Durian price forecast for June 2nd, 2024: Prices for Ri6 durian and Thai durian in the Southwestern region of Vietnam are expected to fluctuate slightly, with Thai durian prices showing little change.

While durian prices had been showing a slight upward trend in the past few days due to the low supply of ripe durians ready for harvest in the Mekong Delta, today they have reversed course and plummeted across the board due to prolonged and even heavy rainfall in some areas.

Thai durian prices have decreased by 2,000-3,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Hopefully, durian prices will rise again in the near future.

This year, due to the intense heatwave, durian trees suffered from heat shock, causing many young fruits to fall off, resulting in a sharp decrease in yield. Therefore, durian prices may fluctuate up and down from day to day.

Previously, today, June 1st, durian prices were highest in the Southwestern region and lowest in the Southeastern region and Central Highlands. Prices at the farm will be 3,000-5,000 VND/kg lower than the prices updated at the wholesale market, depending on the purchasing method used by traders (bulk purchase or selective purchase).

Accordingly, the price of Ri6 durian at the orchards is 60,000 – 62,000 VND/kg; Thai durian is 91,000 – 93,000 VND/kg; and Musangking durian remains at 98,000 – 100,000 VND/kg.

In the Southwestern region of Vietnam, durian prices today reversed their upward trend and decreased compared to yesterday. High-quality Ri6 durians reached 63,000 – 65,000 VND/kg, while lower-quality Ri6 durians were priced at 48,000 – 50,000 VND/kg. High-quality Thai durians were at 94,000 – 95,000 VND/kg, and lower-quality Thai durians were at 75,000 – 77,000 VND/kg, a slight decrease from the previous day.

For durian in the Southeast region, prices have decreased slightly compared to yesterday. Specifically, the purchase price at the wholesale market is 63,000 - 65,000 VND/kg for high-quality Ri6 durian and 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg for lower-quality Ri6 durian; high-quality Thai durian is priced at 94 - 95,000 VND/kg; while lower-quality Thai durian stands at 75,000 - 77,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, in the Central Highlands region, the price of high-quality Ri6 durian is 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg, while the price for lower-quality Ri6 durian is 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg; high-quality Thai durian is priced at 90,000 - 92,000 VND/kg; and lower-quality Thai durian is priced at 71,000 - 72,000 VND/kg.

Depending on the distance and region of transportation, the price of durian will vary to some extent.

Currently, the supply of durian ready for harvest in the Mekong Delta is not very large, therefore, the price of durian is unlikely to fall further.

Can Tho 's durian production in the first six months of this year reached over 18,600 tons, more than 2.5 times higher than the same period last year.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City, the total area planted with durian in Can Tho is currently over 4,500 hectares, an increase of more than 9% compared to the same period last year.

This is also the fruit tree with the largest increase in planted area in the region, and the area that has started bearing fruit has also increased sharply. Combined with the increased durian yield in the early years of fruiting, the total production has increased significantly.

Currently, durian is in its peak harvesting season, with Ri6 durian varieties selling for 45,000 to 55,000 VND/kg, 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg higher than the same period last year. This results in an average profit margin of 50-60%.
