Accordingly, Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Georgi Tahov put forward this proposal at a meeting of the EU Council for Agriculture and Fisheries in Brussels on Monday (September 23).
Mr. Tahov stated that domestic production in Bulgaria has been severely affected by the influx of eggs from Ukraine, which are up to 30% cheaper than eggs on the local market.

According to official figures, Ukraine exported more than 2,600 tons of eggs to Bulgaria in the first half of 2024, five times the amount exported in the first six months of last year.
The official also noted that this "put serious pressure on prices in the domestic market" and caused a wave of bankruptcies among Bulgarian poultry farms.
The minister emphasized: "We firmly support the people of Ukraine, but this must not lead to bankruptcy and violations of farmers' rights."
Mr. Tahov said that if Bulgaria's concerns are not addressed, the EU member state is prepared to consider "protective measures" to restrict trade with Ukraine.
Earlier this year, the European Parliament extended the suspension of all tariffs and quotas on agricultural imports from Ukraine into the EU until June 2025.
The free trade program incorporates an "emergency brake" on poultry, eggs, and sugar, meaning tariffs can be reimposed if flows exceed the average levels of 2022 and 2023.
In 2022, the EU suspended tariffs and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural products to allow grains and other agricultural products from Ukraine to be shipped to global markets.
However, a large volume of cheap agricultural imports from this struggling country has flooded into Eastern Europe. Grain imports from Ukraine were at the heart of farmer protests that took place across the EU earlier this year.
