Health insurance fund pays nearly 319 billion VND for medical examination and treatment costs for students in the city

Many cases of incurable, chronic diseases requiring long-term treatment, many times, are paid a huge amount by the health insurance fund, from 200 to more than 700 million VND.

Universities promote propaganda and mobilize students to participate in health insurance

According to Hai Phong Social Insurance, in the 2024-2025 school year, the whole city will have nearly 443,000 students using health insurance for medical examination and treatment with a total amount of nearly 319 billion VND.

Among them, there are many cases of incurable, chronic diseases that require long-term treatment, many times such as: hemodialysis, cancer treatment, cardiovascular surgery... the health insurance fund pays a huge amount of money from 200 to more than 700 million VND.

For example, Nguyen Thi Mai Lan, born in 2010, in Vinh Hoa commune, was paid more than 710 million VND by the health insurance fund for medical examination and treatment; Le Viet Anh Khoi, born in 2013, in Tan Hung ward, was paid more than 700 million VND; Hoang The Anh, born in 2006, in Le Ich Moc ward, was paid more than 620 million VND; Pham Khanh Vy, born in 2012, in Cam Giang commune, was paid more than 320 million VND...

By participating in health insurance, students receive the best primary health care.

According to Decree No. 188/ND-CP dated July 1, 2025, in the 2025-2026 school year, students participating in health insurance will receive 50% of the contribution from the state budget. The amended Law on Health Insurance in 2024 expands many benefits for health insurance participants, including students participating in health insurance receiving primary health care at educational institutions; those under 18 years old will have the health insurance fund pay for the treatment of strabismus and refractive eye diseases. At the same time, they will be paid for medical examination and treatment costs under health insurance when going to the doctor according to regulations.

Regarding the validity period of health insurance cards for first graders, the validity period begins on October 1st of the first year of primary school; in the case of children born after September 30th, the student health insurance card is valid from the last day of the month in which the child turns 72 months old; for 12th graders, the card is valid until September 30th of that year; health insurance cards are issued annually to students of universities and vocational training institutions.

When going to see a doctor under health insurance, students can use their citizen identification card to complete medical examination and treatment procedures. For students who have not been issued a citizen identification card, they can use their health insurance card or a photo of their health insurance card in the VssID application or one of the identification documents with a photo issued by a competent authority or organization or a certificate from the commune-level police or other documents certified by the educational institution where the student is managed; other legal identification documents and documents with level 2 electronic identification.
