According to information from the Tourism Information Center of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in March 2025 is expected to reach over 2 million, an increase of 28.5% compared to the same period in 2024. For the first quarter of 2025, the total number of international visitors is estimated at approximately 6 million, an increase of 29.6% compared to the first quarter of 2024. This is the highest number ever recorded; compared to the same period in 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic), the number of visitors increased by 134%.
In terms of market size, among the top 10 largest markets for Vietnamese tourism, China ranks first with 1.58 million visitors (a growth rate of 78.3%), followed by South Korea with 1.26 million visitors (equivalent to a growth rate of 2.2%). These two major markets account for 47% of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam.
Next are the markets of Taiwan (China), the United States, Japan, Australia, and India. These markets all experienced growth rates of 10-26%. Benefiting from geographical proximity, markets in Southeast Asia also saw strong growth, with Cambodia experiencing impressive increases of 105.6%, the Philippines (+95.1%), Laos (+52.7%), Indonesia (+6.9%), and Thailand (+4.7%).
European markets continued to experience double-digit growth, especially those benefiting from unilateral visa exemption policies such as: the UK (+23.5%), France (+28.3%), Germany (+23.3%), Italy (+29.0%), Spain (+17.5%), Denmark (+17.6%), Sweden (+18.7%), and Norway (+16.0%). Notably, the Russian market saw a strong increase of 110.5%. The Polish and Swiss markets also recorded increases in visitor numbers, rising by 52.9% and 14.1% respectively compared to the same period in 2024.
According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, this is a result of the Government's Resolution 11/NQ-CP on granting short-term visa exemptions to citizens of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland from March 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025, as part of the 2025 tourism stimulus program. This policy is expected to attract more tourists from these three European markets in 2025.
The implementation of visa exemptions, along with a series of promotional programs, innovative tourism promotion methods, and increased attractiveness of Vietnamese tourism products and destinations, aims to ensure the achievement of the target of 22-23 million international visitors in 2025.
