"We are determined to prevent people from lacking access to clean water." This was the directive of the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Minh Lam, during his inspection and working visit to Can Giuoc district regarding the situation of clean water supply during the dry season. Accompanying him in the delegation were leaders from relevant departments and agencies.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam and the working group conducted a field survey in Tan Tap commune, the locality most severely affected and facing the most difficulties in accessing clean water due to the drought and saltwater intrusion during the 2023-2024 dry season. The majority of residents here lack access to clean water and rely on water regulation from supply units and free assistance from the Provincial Military Command and philanthropists. In total, nearly 4,200 households in Can Giuoc district, across five lower-lying communes – Tan Tap, Phuoc Vinh Dong, Phuoc Vinh Tay, Phuoc Lai, and Dong Thanh – are experiencing water shortages. This situation has persisted for about a month.

Following a field survey, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Minh Lam, listened to presentations and sharing from leaders of Can Giuoc district, the lower-lying communes of the district, and water supply units in the district regarding the difficulties and efforts in regulating and supplying water to the people in the present, as well as proposals and recommendations for fundamental solutions to address the long-term problem of clean water shortage.
Forecasting that the drought and saltwater intrusion situation will remain severe and prolonged, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Minh Lam, requested relevant departments, the Can Giuoc district government, and water supply units to flexibly implement solutions, especially solutions to regulate water flow from districts with sufficient water to those with shortages, in order to share the difficulties together.

Besides, The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Construction to expedite the progress of water supply projects; and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to conduct surveys and immediately reopen reserve wells to serve the people until water supply is ensured, ensuring that no one is left without clean water.
