The Kim Dong Literary Award was established in 2023. In its first writing competition (2023-2025), the award received widespread participation from professional and amateur writers nationwide, as well as writers living abroad.
Writer Tran Duc Tien, Head of the Judging Panel, affirmed: “The Preliminary Judging Panel and the Final Judging Panel – those responsible for ‘selecting the best’ – have strived to work with objectivity. High standards were prioritized. The awareness that ‘playing’ with children must be a pure and innocent game has always been upheld.”
The 11 books in the Kim Dong Literary Award Collection include: 1 First Prize: What to Do When the Wind Rises (Giai Du); 2 Second Prizes: Stories from the Village of Menh Mong (Nguyen Thi Nhu Hien), The Man with the Pink Truck (Giap Thi Thuy Duong); 3 Third Prizes: Far Out in the Field (Cao Nguyet Nguyen), The Upside Down World (Nguyen Quynh Mai); The Pine Forest (Pham Thu Ha); 5 Fourth Prizes: The Witch Who Buys Scrap Metal (Phat Duong), Our Village Has a Hero (Nguyen Quang Lap); The Lion in the Evil Castle (Quyen Gavoye); The Ancient Book of a Mother Goddess (Nguyen Hoang Dieu Thuy); Today There Is a God (Lac An).
In the Kim Dong Literary Award-winning book collection, readers will encounter heartwarming stories imbued with compassion; healing writings about family, kinship, and growing up; imaginative, humorous, and humane fables; and stories with a modern feel.

The 11 books in the Kim Dong Literary Award collection are artistically invested in by Kim Dong Publishing House, featuring color illustrations, hardcovers, and elegant dust jackets.
The launch of the Kim Dong Literary Award Book Collection affirms the investment orientation for creative writing for children and young people, and the Kim Dong Literary Award is a persistent commitment to the goal of developing a team of domestic writers, contributing to the development of Vietnamese literature.
Following the success of the First Kim Dong Literary Award, Kim Dong Publishing House is launching the second Kim Dong Literary Award (2025-2027) with an expanded target audience including children, teenagers, and young adults; and with two award categories: the Kim Dong Literary Award for outstanding works written for children and the Kim Dong Literary Award for outstanding works written for young people.
A representative from the Kim Dong Literary Award Secretariat stated that, to date, each category has received nearly 100 entries. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2026.
