Fire safety check before Nguyen Trung Truc Festival

Ensuring fire safety at Nguyen Trung Truc communal house is extremely important, not only for its material but also historical and cultural value.

The traditional festival commemorating the 156th anniversary of the death of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1868 - 2024) (referred to as the Festival) this year takes place from September 28 to 30, and is expected to attract a large number of people from all over the country. To ensure the safety of the Festival, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police force, Kien Giang Provincial Police, has come to conduct a general inspection to ensure absolute safety for the relic as well as for visitors from all over.

The authorities have inspected the records, fire extinguishers, automatic fire alarm systems in the communal house, carefully inspected electrical areas and areas prone to fire and explosion as well as the electrical system. They have also checked the arrangement of assets, goods, vehicles, emergency exits, use of heat sources, fire at places where incense is burned, votive paper is burned, etc.

Lieutenant Colonel Danh Cuong - Deputy Head of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team, Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, Kien Giang Provincial Police - said: "The fire prevention and rescue system at the communal house has been fully equipped and is operating stably. However, some lines have not been properly installed, and the arrangement of cooking gas cylinders is not reasonable. We have reminded the communal house management board to fix it immediately to avoid the risk of fire and explosion that may occur."

Nguyen Trung Truc Communal House has a wooden architecture and is decorated with many flammable materials. If a fire or explosion occurs, the consequences will be very serious. Not only will there be material loss, but the cultural and historical values ​​associated with these structures will also be threatened.

Mr. Dang Cong Binh - Member of the Management Board of the Nguyen Trung Truc Tomb and Communal House Historical and Cultural Relic Site - said: “In recent times, the Management Board has paid very close attention to fire prevention and fighting at the communal house. We closely coordinate with the authorities, regularly inspect and maintain fire prevention and fighting equipment, especially during major festivals. In addition, the Management Board also organizes training sessions for employees and those who work directly at the communal house on how to handle fires and explosions.”

The authorities also disseminated information to rice farm owners, those in charge of cooking, and small traders at the Trade Fair booths to use fire extinguishers and evacuate people in case of emergency so that everyone can improve their skills and awareness of fire prevention.

The working group requested that businesses not let materials and goods encroach on emergency exits, not hook up electricity indiscriminately, and not burn incense or votive paper to prevent fires and explosions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Sau - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Kien Giang province - said: Kien Giang is upgrading the festival, strengthening management, renovation, and restoration work... to strive to turn the Nguyen Trung Truc Tomb and Communal House Historical and Cultural Relic into a special National Relic in the near future.

Previously, on October 10, 2023, Kien Giang province held a ceremony to receive the National Intangible Cultural Heritage certificate "Nguyen Trung Truc Communal House Festival - Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province".

The historical and cultural relic of the Tomb and Communal House of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc in Rach Gia City is not only a place to worship the national hero, but also an important historical and cultural relic of Kien Giang province. Every year, this place attracts a large number of tourists to come and worship, the peak being the 3 main days of the Nguyen Trung Truc Festival (also known by the locals as the Nguyen's death anniversary). At the 2023 festival, this place welcomed about 1.2 - 1.5 million visitors.
