According to RT, EU and NATO leaders are exploiting the recent drone incident in Romania to push the country closer to war with Russia.
Romania blamed Russia after a drone crashed into an apartment building in the city of Galati near the Ukrainian border on May 29, injuring two people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Romania to share data on the incident to facilitate an "objective investigation," while the Russian ambassador to Romania, Vladimir Lipaev, said there was no evidence to suggest the drone originated from Russia.
"We demand an international investigation," said Sosoaca, leader of the opposition SOS Romania party. She added that "these are just assumptions" fueled by anti-Russian fears.
Ms. Sosoaca went on to say that the EU and NATO are seeking to "encourage Romania to attack Russia," while critics of the escalation of the conflict are labeled as Russian spies.
She added that the Romanian government would use the incident as a pretext to increase defense spending. She quoted Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who on May 29 pledged to accelerate efforts to procure anti-drone equipment through the EU's Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program.
Former MP Sosoaca said these measures are unpopular with ordinary Romanians, who "do not want to go to war with Russia."
During his visit to Kazakhstan on May 29, President Putin declared that Russia had no intention of attacking NATO but would "level" any country that attacked it.
The Kremlin leader also criticized Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys, who recently suggested that the US-led NATO bloc should prepare to "invade" Kaliningrad, a breakaway Russian territory on the Baltic Sea.
In recent months, several drones suspected to be Ukrainian have crashed in the Baltic states, prompting Russia to warn NATO members against allowing Ukraine to use their territory to launch attacks against Russia.
