Having failed my programming course, should I switch to a different major?

VnExpressVnExpress08/02/2024

I failed the introductory programming course in the first semester, which made me very discouraged. I thought I wasn't suited for information technology and wanted to switch to a different major.

I am a first-year student majoring in Information Systems at the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. During high school, I focused primarily on Math, Physics, and Chemistry to prepare for the university entrance exam, so I lacked programming knowledge. In the first semester, I took an introductory programming course but didn't understand anything and failed. I'm very discouraged and unsure if I'm suited to a career in information technology.

I'm thinking about whether I should change majors, and I'd appreciate any advice.
