Many places also order textbooks as rewards and gifts for students at the end of the school year ceremony.
End of year gifts for students
At an elementary school in Ho Chi Minh City, in grade 4 alone, 6 out of 8 classes had parent representatives looking to order textbooks as year-end gifts for students.
Ms. Phuong - head of the parent representative committee of this elementary school - said: "Many parents ask for the address to buy textbooks as gifts. In the whole school, the number of classes using textbooks as year-end rewards for students accounts for more than 2/3 of the total number of classes."
Reporters' observations also show that at this time, many parents begin preparing textbooks for their children to study during the summer and prepare for the new school year 2025-2026.
Meanwhile, some schools in Ho Chi Minh City have begun preparing to sign contracts with companies to purchase textbooks for the 2025-2026 school year to provide to parents.
"This weekend, the school will hold a parent meeting and survey parents' needs for textbooks, then sign contracts with companies. According to the school's forecast, parents' demand for textbooks this year will be higher.
The reason is that this is the second year of teaching the 2018 generaleducation program, the textbooks used in learning have been selected stably, so parents register for textbooks earlier than last year. On the other hand, many parents often want to buy two sets of textbooks for their children to make it easier for them to study," the principal of a secondary school in Ho Chi Minh City told Tuoi Tre reporter.
Will supply all orders by the end of June
According to Tuoi Tre reporters at some bookstores in District 5, District 10, District 1 (HCMC), the supply of textbooks from grades 1 to 12 of the three titles Canh Dieu, Chan Troi Sang Tao, Ket Noi Tri Thuc is relatively abundant but still not complete. The bookstores noted a lack of some titles such as math textbooks for grade 1, Vietnamese for grade 5, natural science for grade 8...
According to some bookstores, their orders are currently not fully supplied by the Education Publishing House, some places only receive 20%.
"However, we have been promised that we will supply enough textbooks according to orders in June," the sales director of a bookstore chain in Ho Chi Minh City told Tuoi Tre reporter.
Ms. Pham Thi Hoa - Deputy General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Book Distribution Joint Stock Company (Fahasa) - said that this year Fahasa plans to import and distribute textbooks with a quantity 30% higher than in 2024 because this year Fahasa has a number of new bookstores. Up to this point, Fahasa has almost enough textbooks to serve retail sales at the bookstore system.
"To have enough textbooks to meet students' needs, from the beginning of the year, Fahasa has made a tentative order and signed a contract to directly exploit textbook sources from companies. Therefore, partners always ensure that Fahasa has enough and timely textbook sources to serve customers. Because textbooks are essential goods, they are the core goods that Fahasa serves during the summer" - Ms. Hoa informed.
Textbooks according to the 2018 general education program have three sets, including Canh Dieu, Chan Troi Sang Tao and Ket Noi Tri Thuc. The Canh Dieu set is published by Ho Chi Minh City University of Education Publishing House, Hanoi University of Education Publishing House, and Vietnam Education Publishing and Equipment Investment Joint Stock Company (VEPIC).
The Creative Horizons and Connecting Knowledge with Life series is published by Vietnam Education Publishing House. Each school, depending on the selection of professional groups, selects a set of textbooks for students to use as learning materials.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre, the leader of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education Publishing House said that the units implementing the Canh Dieu book series have been urgently printing and supplying textbooks for the new school year according to orders. "We ensure timely supply of textbooks according to orders," he said.
Bookstores increase incentives when buying textbooks
According to Ms. Pham Thi Hoa - Deputy General Director of Fahasa, this year Fahasa has a better sales policy for customers buying textbooks.
According to Ms. Hoa, although revenue is high, profit from textbook business is very low. However, to serve customers better and to show gratitude to customers who have supported Fahasa's textbooks and school supplies for many years, Fahasa cooperates with many partners (suppliers of school supplies) to organize gift giving programs for customers who buy textbooks at bookstores.
Specifically, each customer who buys textbooks will receive one of the following gift products: a stack of labels, a timetable, a multiplication table, or a notebook. In addition, for schools that need to buy textbooks to give out as year-end bonuses or to distribute to students in the new school year, Fahasa will have special policies such as special discounts, combo sets, gift packages, home delivery, etc.
