The Ho Chi Minh City team dominated the competition and won first place overall at the 2026 National Swimming Championships.

Following the merger and addition of personnel from the former Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces, Ho Chi Minh City's sports scene has become significantly stronger. This increase in human resources, from athletes to coaches, has contributed to a superior strength, enabling the city's sports to continuously conquer new heights in domestic competitions.

The convergence of elite athletes from localities with rich sporting traditions not only increases the depth of the team but also opens up opportunities to improve the quality of training and competition. This synergy of resources has quickly yielded clear results. In many national championships recently, Ho Chi Minh City's teams have consistently achieved high results, affirming their leading position in Vietnamese sports.

A prime example is the 2026 National Chess Championship held in Lao Cai, where the participation of the reigning world champion Lai Ly Huynh (formerly from Binh Duong) further strengthened the Ho Chi Minh City team. The players from Ho Chi Minh City excelled, winning 9 gold medals, far surpassing Bac Ninh (3 gold medals) and Dong Nai (2 gold medals) to claim first place overall. Although unable to defend their standard chess title, Lai Ly Huynh still brought home a gold medal in rapid chess. In addition, Dam Thi Thuy Dung, Nguyen Hoang, and Vu Quoc Dat all achieved double gold medals, further solidifying Ho Chi Minh City's position as the number one chess team.

Not only excelling in intellectual sports, Ho Chi Minh City also made a strong impression in aquatic sports. At the 2026 National Swimming and Diving Championships (25m pool) held in Hue, the Ho Chi Minh City swimming team performed brilliantly, winning a total of 45 medals, including 17 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze, ranking first overall. Notably, the city's swimmers broke 8 national records, further affirming their leading position nationwide. In diving, the Ho Chi Minh City team also excelled, winning 7 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals, firmly holding the number one position.

Meanwhile, at the 2026 National Judo Club Cup held in Can Tho, the Ho Chi Minh City Judo team achieved an impressive result with 8 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 16 bronze medals, thus winning first place overall. This success further affirms the tradition and depth of strength of Ho Chi Minh City's Judo team. In the pétanque event, Ho Chi Minh City athletes continued to show consistent performance at the 2026 National Team Championship held in Ca Mau. With 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals, the Ho Chi Minh City team once again affirmed its number one position among the strongest units in the country.

In archery, Ho Chi Minh City's athletes also performed successfully at the 2026 National Archery Championship held in Quang Ninh. The team won 6 gold medals, ranking third overall. Notably, Ho Chi Minh City archers broke 3 national records, including one that had stood for 12 years.

These impressive results are clear evidence of the scientific training process, systematic investment, and tenacious competitive spirit of Ho Chi Minh City's athletes and coaches. At the same time, they are also the result of a strategy to develop high-performance sports towards professionalism, sustainability, and international integration. The achievements of Ho Chi Minh City's athletes and coaches in recent domestic competitions are even more significant as the city celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Sports and Physical Education ngành (March 27, 1946 - March 27, 2026) and the 50th anniversary of the development of Ho Chi Minh City's sports sector (1976 - 2026). This is not only an opportunity to look back on the past but also a motivation for the city's sports to continue to reach greater heights in the future.

This will also be a new impetus and source of motivation for Ho Chi Minh City's sports sector to actively prepare for the 2026 Ho Chi Minh City Sports Festival and the 10th National Sports Festival - important events that are not only significant in terms of sports but also carry profound cultural and social meaning, contributing to promoting the image of a dynamic, modern, and integrated city.
