Throughout its 80-year history of national development, the National Political Publishing House has continuously innovated to bring political and historical books into everyday life. These changes in book production methods and approaches to readers have helped theoretical and political publications become increasingly accessible, transforming them into important cultural and intellectual products in modern society.

Positive signal
Immediately after the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on December 5, 1945, the Party founded the Truth Publishing House – the predecessor of the National Political Publishing House, laying the foundation for the revolutionary publishing industry. Over the past 80 years, despite the flexible changes in its mission over time, the publishing house has always maintained its core mission: to disseminate Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought; to propagate the Party and State's guidelines and policies; and to equip cadres, Party members, and the people with political and theoretical knowledge.
Political and historical books were once considered to have a "niche audience," especially young readers. However, recently, some books from the National Political Publishing House have been positively received by young readers. Pham Thi Thinh, Deputy Director and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House, said that the significant impact of the two books "A Heart for the Country" and "Family, Friends, and the Country" by former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh can be seen as a prime example of inspiring reading and historical exploration within the community. The memoir "Family, Friends, and the Country" alone created a sensation within a month of its release and has now sold 53,000 copies. In addition, there are other books such as "Golden Lotus" with a print run of 16,000 copies over the past two years, " The Communist Party of Vietnam through its Congresses - Historical Decisions" with 12,000 copies…
“Through these ‘phenomena,’ we see that if books are accurately and faithfully presented, relatable to readers, and disseminated at the right time and to the right audience, they will create a huge impact. Instead of ‘publishing what we have,’ we shifted to ‘publishing what readers need’; instead of focusing heavily on theory, we portray people, their personalities, their destinies, and explore the everyday stories behind historical figures, making books more relatable to society and life. When political and historical issues are told through vivid stories, connected to the thoughts, aspirations, and responsibilities of each individual, they naturally touch the hearts of readers, including young people,” Ms. Pham Thi Thinh shared her secret to attracting young readers.
Excited about the recently published political and historical books, Le Duc Anh, a student at the University of Commerce, shared: “Nguyen Thi Binh’s memoir not only tells the story of a revolutionary woman but also inspires patriotism, steadfastness, and courage. Therefore, when reading it, I felt very connected and moved.”
Getting closer to the public
In fact, the more modern society becomes, the more important traditional cultural values become. The public is increasingly inclined to read history and cultural books to understand their roots, rediscover enduring values, build and promote patriotism and national unity, and awaken the desire to contribute. Recognizing this, the National Political Publishing House has proactively innovated, improved content quality, diversified distribution methods, and actively applied digital technology. In the period 2020-2025 alone, the unit published over 29.8 million print books and 2,760 e-books, built a system of 6 websites for online promotion and sales, creating a sustainable digital ecosystem that expands access to readers, especially young people.
Besides editing, publishing, and distributing, the National Political Publishing House also organizes many exchange activities, seminars, and exhibitions to spread the love of books. Recently, in Hoan Kiem ward (Hanoi), the event introducing the memoir "A Heart for the Country" by former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh attracted a large number of people, especially young people. Nguyen Hong Trang, Vice Chairman of the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee, believes that these events are very meaningful, enriching activities to encourage reading culture, raising awareness of valuing knowledge in the digital age, and spreading patriotism and national pride to the community, especially the younger generation.
Regarding the developments at the National Political Publishing House, Deputy Director of the Press and Publishing Department (Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee) Nguyen Thi My Linh commented that the publishing house is heading in the right direction and achieving outstanding results, clearly demonstrated by the number of publications reaching readers. In addition to producing books serving the political activities of the Party and State, the publishing house is also diversifying its topics, improving editorial quality, promoting digital transformation, applying artificial intelligence, and focusing on translation to bring Vietnamese books to the world. This is the right direction, transforming books into an indispensable cultural and spiritual product in life.
Regarding future direction, Ms. Pham Thi Thinh stated that the National Political Publishing House recognizes its responsibility to promote its role in guiding, leading, and inspiring readers, while providing the most valuable and high-quality publications. The publishing house actively researches reader preferences to commission works from authors, proactively engages with readers, focuses on digital transformation, diversifies publishing formats, and creates innovative forms of communication, bringing political and historical books closer to the public.
