Samsung has long favored a circular design for its Galaxy Watch line, but that may soon change. According to a new report from SamMobile, Samsung may change the status quo and launch a rectangular version of the Galaxy Watch.

In fact, Samsung's journey into smartwatches initially began with a rectangular design. In 2013, the company launched the Galaxy Gear smartwatch with a 1.6-inch rectangular screen. This was followed by the Gear 2 and Gear Live, which also maintained this design. However, in recent years, Samsung has shifted its focus to round-shaped smartwatches and has refined this design over time.
Now, a new report from SamMobile suggests that Samsung's smartwatches will soon return to a rectangular design. SamMobile's report states: “ This idea is being enthusiastically considered internally, and it’s highly likely the switch will actually happen .” However, it remains unclear whether this change will appear on the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 or subsequent generations.
Technology experts believe that implementing such a significant change will certainly require time to optimize both the hardware and software on the Galaxy Watch series.
Although your personal preference might lean towards a round design, rectangular displays on smartwatches also offer more practical advantages compared to round ones.
Unlike round screens, which typically have rounded edges, rectangular screens offer more usable display space. This means you can view and interact with notifications in a better way, and navigating user interface elements on the device is also easier.
Above all, it will be interesting to see how Samsung implements it, how they convince customers to accept this design again, now that many users are familiar with and increasingly fond of the circular design of the Galaxy Watch line. Meanwhile, Apple, arguably Samsung's main competitor in the wearables sector, has achieved success with this design approach on its widely popular Apple Watch line.
