Contrary to many people's predictions, the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport, Ho Chi Minh City, was unusually clear on the afternoon of January 23 (December 24). This was also the first day that Hoang Hoa Tham Street and the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa were open to traffic.
On the afternoon of January 23, according to Giao Thong Newspaper reporters, the roads around Tan Son Nhat airport were unusually clear. Despite the forecast of tension, in reality, traffic flowed very smoothly in both directions.
In the area of the entrance to Tan Son Nhat airport, from Pham Van Dong - Bach Dang - Truong Son street to the terminal, traffic is slow. However, during rush hour (4pm - 6pm), the congestion is significantly reduced compared to previous days.
Motorbikes enter the internal area of the airport to enter the parking lot.
In contrast to Truong Son and Bach Dang streets, on the road leading to the airport, hundreds of vehicles lined up, inching their way.
Tan Son Nhat Airport Operations Center said that on January 23, there were about 1,000 flights departing and arriving with about 138,374 passengers. Of these, there were 499 departure flights (341 domestic flights, 158 international flights) and 501 arrival flights (342 domestic flights, 159 international flights).
On average, about 3,850 passengers board planes leaving Ho Chi Minh City every hour. In the photo, passengers line up to check in at the airport at 5 p.m.
Ms. Bich Thanh (33 years old, living in District 7) said that her family flew back to Hanoi at 8:30 p.m. but arrived at the airport at 4:30 p.m. "Today, the roads were smooth, only some intersections were slightly congested due to red lights, not traffic jams as I was worried about. It took me a while to check in at the airport because it was crowded. In general, waiting for a long time is a bit tiring, but it's Tet, everyone is going back to their hometown so we have to be patient," Ms. Thanh said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ngoc Danh (District 10) shared that he took the 6:10 p.m. flight to Buon Ma Thuot, and arrived at the airport at 4 p.m. to avoid traffic jams. After lining up and checking in at the waiting room, he received a message that the flight was delayed to 8:50 p.m.
"I was mentally prepared for traffic jams and delays, so I didn't feel tired. However, I was traveling with small children, so they were a bit annoyed because of the long wait," said Mr. Danh.
With about 45,992 arrivals per day, the airport pick-up and drop-off service was bustling. At the pick-up and drop-off areas, taxis and private cars lined up to pick up passengers.
Not only Truong Son, Bach Dang, Hong Ha... streets are clear, the Lang Cha Ca roundabout area - a hot spot for traffic congestion - is also clear, not as jammed as usual.
Today, a section of the route connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa and Hoang Hoa Tham Street (Tan Binh District) officially opened to traffic, serving people's travel. Although the number of vehicles on these two routes is not much, it still contributes to sharing the load on Cong Hoa, Truong Son, Phan Thuc Duyen...
In the photo, Hoang Hoa Tham Street opens to traffic in phase 1, connecting directly with Tran Quoc Hoan connecting road, going to Truong Son Street, entering Tan Son Nhat airport.
Cong Hoa Street is clear at 4:00 p.m. on January 23.
The road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa and Hoang Hoa Tham streets is open to traffic, forming a new traffic axis connecting the main axes of the area around Tan Son Nhat airport, expected to reduce traffic congestion, ensure traffic safety in the area, contributing to improving the traffic situation.
