On March 21st, the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital announced that its doctors had successfully performed a special cesarean section on a 60-year-old pregnant woman, whose pregnancy was classified as very high-risk with multiple complex underlying medical conditions.

According to information from the hospital, the pregnant woman was admitted at 38.2 weeks of gestation. Her general condition was temporarily stable, but she had several risk factors due to chronic hypertension under treatment, gestational diabetes requiring daily insulin control, and a history of gynecological surgery including open surgery for ectopic pregnancy and surgery to separate uterine adhesions.

It is known that this extraordinary mother conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

Doctors share that at the age of 60, the journey of pregnancy and childbirth is no longer a natural process for the body, but becomes a severe challenge for the cardiovascular and endocrine systems, as well as the body's already declining recovery ability over time.

This may involve facing risks such as cardiovascular events, stroke due to hypertension, blood sugar disorders during and after surgery, postpartum hemorrhage due to poor uterine contraction, infection, or slow recovery throughout pregnancy and childbirth.

In particular, the history of two previous surgeries increases the risk of adhesions, tissue damage, and bleeding during the operation, requiring every step to be precise, delicate, and leaving virtually no room for error.

Throughout the surgery, in addition to his intense professional focus, Professor Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, Director of the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, continuously conversed with and encouraged the mother to reduce her stress, offering gentle reassurance that was enough to help her confidently navigate the delicate boundary of childbirth.

And then the most awaited moment arrived, when the 2.8kg baby let out a loud cry, with good reflexes, a simple sound that brought a moment of relief to the entire operating room.

It's a meaningful coincidence that the baby was born on March 20th - International Happiness Day, as a very natural way to redefine the word "happiness": it's the healthy cry of a newborn, the mother's safety after surgery, and the silent but persistent efforts of the entire medical team.
