For the 2026-2027 school year, the province plans to enroll over 16,800 students in 10th grade at high schools, ethnic minority boarding schools, and Continuing Education Centers. The Department of Education and Training has established 43 examination centers with 804 examination rooms. According to regulations, students must take the exam at the school they applied to. Furthermore, after the first round of admissions, if a student is not admitted, they can apply for a second choice at another school, provided their admission score is one point higher than the school's admission score. To date, high schools have received over 17,000 applications from candidates.
Mr. Mai Anh Duc, Head of the Education Quality Management Department of the Department of Education and Training, said: This year, candidates taking the entrance exam for 10th grade in non-specialized high schools will take the Mathematics and Literature exams on June 1st; and the English exam on the morning of June 2nd. For the 10th grade entrance exam at Son La Specialized High School, there will be four subjects: three common subjects with the same exam paper from the Department (Mathematics, Literature, and English) and an additional specialized subject exam on the afternoon of June 2nd. As for Chu Van An Primary, Secondary & High School, the admissions process will be organized by Tay Bac University according to regulations. The exam questions will be prepared by the Examination Council of the Department of Education and Training, ensuring that the core knowledge covered is within the 9th grade secondary school curriculum.
To date, examination centers throughout the province are actively preparing for the 2026-2027 high school entrance exam for 10th grade. At Van Ho Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary and High School, the review of facilities, arrangement of examination rooms, waiting rooms, electrical systems, fans, and other security and safety measures for the exam have been largely completed. The school has mobilized 35 staff members, teachers, and employees to serve the exam; at the same time, it has coordinated with functional forces to develop plans to ensure the exam takes place safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations.
Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Principal of Van Ho Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School, said: To date, the school has received more than 230 applications for the entrance exam, and will enroll 155 students in grade 10. To prepare well for the exam, the school has arranged 7 examination rooms; reviewed and improved facilities, ensuring that the examination rooms are well-ventilated and have sufficient lighting. In addition, on the day of the exam, a team of volunteer youth will welcome, guide, and support candidates and parents.
To ensure the 10th grade high school entrance exam was conducted safely and seriously, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with local authorities to mobilize over 2,800 officials and teachers to participate in invigilation, inspection, service, security, and medical duties. A training conference was organized for management staff and teachers from 43 high schools on exam organization; the content and regulations regarding invigilation, marking, results announcement, and preventing cheating were thoroughly explained. In addition, the Department organized two mock exams using the province-wide common exam paper, helping students familiarize themselves with the exam structure, improve their test-taking skills and psychology; and enabling schools to accurately assess students' abilities and provide appropriate remedial instruction.
Ha Minh Tien, a student in class 9A1 at Tong Co Secondary School in Chieng La commune, shared: "I applied to the 10th grade at the Provincial Ethnic Minority Boarding School. Besides studying for the exam in class, I proactively enrolled in extra classes at a tutoring center, focusing on consolidating areas where my knowledge is weak and practicing exam questions to improve my test-taking skills. I also try to manage my study time effectively, maintain good health, and have a relaxed mindset to achieve the best results."
Mr. Nguyen Chi Chung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, informed: In addition to preparing well for the 10th grade exam, the Department has directed schools to coordinate with localities to review candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds, implement activities to support transportation, food, and accommodation during the exam days; and pay attention to encouraging students to stabilize their psychology and health, confidently enter the exam and achieve high results.
With thorough preparation from the Ministry of Education and Training, localities, and schools, along with the proactive and responsible spirit of the staff, teachers, and students, the entrance examination for 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year is expected to be conducted safely, seriously, objectively, and with high results.
